Product description

The plastic bottle with a disc top cap is a complete set consisting of a clear PET bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml and a black disc top cap that opens with a single-hand press and dispenses the contents without unscrewing. Suitable for shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, body lotions and other liquid to medium-viscosity formulations dispensed in small amounts.

PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, so the bottle holds up in the shower, in the bathroom and in a travel bag where glass would be a hazard. The clear wall shows the colour and texture of the product and you can always see how much is left. The 100 ml size is suited for travel packaging, samples of larger products and smaller production batches.

How the disc top works and which textures it suits

The disc top is a cap with a flip disc. Pressing on its marked side flips open the dispensing opening on the opposite side; pressing back closes it. The contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle and gently squeezing the walls. The dose size is therefore controlled by the pressure applied.

This works best for products that flow on their own but are not as thin as water: gels, liquid soaps, emulsions with lower to medium viscosity and oils. Very thin liquids flow through the opening quickly and are harder to measure. Thick creams and butters are difficult to push through the opening and tend to cling to the bottle walls.

  • One-hand dispensing – the cap opens and closes with the thumb, which is practical for products used in the shower or with wet hands.
  • Cap stays on the bottle – nothing unscrews or gets lost; the opening is exposed only during dispensing.
  • Black and clear contrast – the black cap stands out against the clear bottle and lets the colour of the contents show.

Suitable for products such as

  • Shower gels and liquid soaps – dispensed by squeezing the bottle in small amounts.
  • Shampoos and conditioners – fluid enough to squeeze through the opening, yet they do not leak out on their own.
  • Body lotions and lighter emulsions – suitable as long as the emulsion pours; a thick cream belongs in a jar.
  • Massage and body oils – the disc top opening releases oil in a thin stream directly into the palm.
  • Cleansing gels and make-up removers – the clear bottle shows both a clear gel and a two-phase product.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed to hold during normal filling. The total brim-full volume is slightly larger, as it includes the space in the neck. This difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle may push contents through the thread when closed or when warmed.

What to know before filling

Before first use, wash the bottle and cap and disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Leave them to dry completely so that no water or residual disinfectant gets into the product. Boiling and hot water are not suitable for PET.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Fill only after the product has cooled; hot material can deform the bottle walls.

The set is intended for standard aqueous, oil-based and alcohol-based cosmetic formulations. Caution is warranted with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, which may degrade the plastic over time. Such contents should be tested in a single bottle first. Concentrated essential oil blends belong in glass.

The clear wall does not protect the contents from light. Products containing vegetable oils prone to oxidation, extracts or light-sensitive colorants are better stored away from direct sunlight, for example in a cabinet or a box.

With your own formulation, it is worth filling one test bottle and monitoring for a few days how the product dispenses through the disc top, whether the cap seals and whether the contents or the bottle change.

Labels adhere best to a dry, degreased surface. The dimensions needed for label design are listed in the product specifications.

The set is suitable for contact with cosmetic products; a declaration of conformity is available with the product. It is intended for cosmetics and is not approved for contact with food. Other closures with the same neck type (stated in the specifications) and further ready-made combinations are available from Handymade. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing and packaging behaviour with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What products is a plastic bottle with a disc top cap suitable for?
The plastic bottle with a disc top cap is best suited for liquid to medium-viscosity formulations such as shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, body lotions and oils. Contents are dispensed by squeezing the bottle through a small opening. Very thin liquids flow out too quickly and thick creams are difficult to push through the opening.
Does a clear plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, a clear PET bottle transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. For products containing oils prone to oxidation, plant extracts or light-sensitive colorants, storage away from direct sunlight is recommended, for example in a cabinet or a box. The clear wall is, on the other hand, useful where the colour and texture of the product should be visible.
Can a hot product be filled into a PET bottle?
No, a hot product should not be filled into a PET bottle, as heat can deform the walls. Shampoos, gels and emulsions should be filled only after cooling. For the same reason, the bottle should not be boiled before filling. Simply wash it, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry thoroughly.
Is the 100 ml plastic bottle suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based formulations?
A PET bottle is suitable for standard alcohol-based cosmetic formulations and for products with a typical proportion of essential oils. It is not suitable for pure essential oils or their concentrated blends, as these may degrade the plastic over time. Such contents belong in glass. For formulations with a higher proportion of solvents, a test filling in a single bottle is recommended.
How much product fits in the 100 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle is designed for 100 ml of product, which is its nominal volume. The total brim-full volume is slightly larger and serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of contents with temperature changes. It should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle may push contents through the thread.
