Product description

A lightweight bottle made of transparent PET plastic with a capacity of 100 ml, supplied together with a silver aluminium cap. The clear material reveals the colour and clarity of the contents, making it suitable for products that should be visible in their packaging – from tonics and shower gels to body oils.

The tall, slim shape leaves plenty of surface area for a label. The cap closes the bottle completely, with no dispensing opening, so the contents are poured directly from the neck. The set is therefore best suited for liquid and free-flowing products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Water-based products – tonics, micellar waters, floral waters and liquid soaps. Any cloudiness or sediment is visible through the clear wall.
  • Rinse-off products – shower gels, shampoos and bath foams, provided they are fluid enough to pour from the neck.
  • Oil blends – body, massage and bath oils. The bottle will not shatter if dropped, which is an advantage in the bathroom.
  • Refills and samples – smaller travel-size portions, for testing a new formula or for topping up a bottle fitted with a pump or spray.

The narrow-neck bottle is not suitable for thick creams, ointments and gels that do not flow on their own. A jar is more practical for those.

Bottle and cap as a unit

The aluminium cap screws onto the bottle thread. Inside it has a foam polyethylene sealing liner that seats against the rim of the neck when tightened. The liner also separates the contents from the metal, so the product comes into contact with plastic rather than directly with aluminium. The silver metal gives the clear bottle a neat appearance without any additional decoration.

The bottle neck is standardised; its type is listed in the specifications. If the product requires dispensing, closures with the same neck type as well as ready-made combinations are available from Handymade. With a custom combination, we recommend checking the seal, dispensing behaviour and compatibility of the packaging with the specific formula.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended to hold during standard filling. Total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference acts as a buffer: the contents expand slightly with temperature changes and the air gap beneath the cap prevents the product from being forced out through the thread.

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The level therefore stays below the neck and the cap can be tightened without the contents leaking onto the thread.

Preparation before filling

Before first use, the bottle and cap are washed with warm water and washing-up liquid and rinsed thoroughly. They are then rinsed or sprayed with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or ethanol and left to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging places an unnecessary burden on the product's preservation.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. The bottle should not be boiled or sterilised with hot water, and the product should only be filled once it has cooled down. Hot contents can deform the wall.

Good to know

  • Essential oils and solvents – undiluted essential oils and aggressive solvents can degrade PET over time. Typical concentrations in finished cosmetics generally cause no problems; at higher levels, a test batch is worthwhile.
  • Acidic and alkaline contents – aluminium is sensitive to strongly acidic and alkaline environments. The liner in the cap protects the metal, but with such products it is advisable to inspect the inside of the cap after a few weeks.
  • Contact with cosmetics – the bottle and cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is intended for cosmetics, not for food.
  • Labelling – the smooth cylindrical wall holds self-adhesive labels well; dimensions for label design are listed in the specifications. Apply the label to a dry and degreased surface.

Frequently asked questions

Does the transparent plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. The advantage is that the product is visible in its packaging and its appearance can be checked at any time. Formulations with light-sensitive ingredients – such as easily oxidised oils, vitamins or plant extracts – are better stored in a cupboard or box, or a coloured packaging should be chosen instead.
Can a hot product be filled into the PET plastic bottle?
No, hot products should not be filled into the PET bottle. The material softens at elevated temperatures and the bottle may deform or lose its seal at the neck. Emulsions, gels and surfactant blends should therefore be allowed to cool before filling. For the same reason, the bottle should not be cleaned with boiling water.
Is the plastic bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for body and massage oils?
Yes, PET is resistant to vegetable oils and common oil blends. The sealing liner in the cap prevents oil from leaking through the thread when the cap is properly tightened. For blends with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend filling a test piece first and checking the bottle wall and liner after a few weeks.
Can the aluminium cap on the plastic bottle be replaced with a different closure?
Yes, the bottle has a standardised neck and closures with the same neck type listed in the specifications will fit it. The cap can therefore be replaced with a dispensing closure if the product requires it. With any custom combination, it is advisable to test the seal of the filled bottle and the behaviour of the closure with the specific formula.
Can the plastic bottle with an aluminium cap be reused?
Yes, provided the bottle is undamaged and can be cleaned thoroughly. Wash it with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. Before refilling, inspect the sealing liner in the cap: if it is deformed or retains the scent of the previous contents, it is better to replace the cap.
