EMULSENSE HC is currently the only completely natural cationic surfactant (surfactant, surface-active cleansing agent) on the market that is palm-oil-free and ECOCERT-certified for use on hair. It is obtained from fermentation and plant-based materials while maintaining sustainable green chemistry procedures.
It has the form of white to beige flakes that melt at a temperature of 58°C. It is added to the oil or water phase and can also be used in a one-pot method (oil and water phase together). Heat it to 70°C in one of the phases and then combine both phases and mix until cool – emulsification with a homogenizer is not necessary. Emulsense HC is suitable both for rinse-off hair products and for leave-on products. It is excellent in creamy conditioners, hair masks and 2-in-1 products. Most often it is used as a conditioning and antistatic agent and as an emulsifier in creamy conditioners. The active component is a cationic surfactant with a predominant proportion of C22 chains. Its conditioning performance is therefore very similar to widely used behenyl quats. Since it is a cationic surfactant, it has no cleansing or foaming properties. This means it must be combined with other surfactants.
It is not compatible with anionic surfactants (like all other cationic surfactants), and therefore when formulating the recipe it is necessary to use non-ionic surfactants (glucosides such as coco glucoside, decyl and lauryl glucoside) and amphoteric surfactants (betaines such as cocamidopropyl betaine or sodium cocoamphodiacetate). The production technology ensures easy biodegradability, it is harmless to aquatic organisms and does not irritate the eyes or skin. Recommended dosage: 5-16%The pH of the final product is usually around 3.5. To increase it, arginine must be used (0.2 - 0.4% is usually sufficient to raise the pH to 5.5); sodium hydroxide and sodium bicarbonate do not work. All supplied raw materials are of cosmetic grade, not suitable for internal use. Use appropriate protective equipment when handling.
