Glass packaging is generally a suitable choice for products containing essential oils, since glass is a stable material and, when used correctly with common cosmetic concentrations, does not react. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, we recommend carrying out your own compatibility test – verifying the behaviour of the mixture in contact with the glass as well as with the sprayer (sealing, functionality of the mechanism, long-term storage).

The bottle can be reused provided that strict hygiene principles are observed. Before each new filling, the packaging must be thoroughly cleaned and subsequently disinfected with a suitable agent, for example isopropyl alcohol or ethanol (products ALK001 / ALK002), which you can find on the pages IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol 1 l and Ethanol 96 % denatured vegetable 1 l. Only after the packaging is completely dry and aired out do we recommend refilling the bottle, ideally with the same or a similar type of product, in order to minimise the risk of undesirable interactions from residues of the previous formulation.

For cleaning, we recommend first disassembling the bottle and the sprayer. Wash the container thoroughly with a suitable cleaning agent and rinse with clean water. The sprayer mechanism is ideally flushed with water and then with a small amount of alcohol, which helps remove residues of oils or active substances. After cleaning, allow all parts to dry completely at room temperature. Avoid using excessive force when pressing or turning components to prevent damage to the delicate mechanism.

To maintain the stability of the contents, we recommend storing the filled packaging in a dry place, at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight or sources of heat. The bottle should always be tightly closed to minimise contact with air and moisture. For products containing volatile substances or a higher proportion of natural ingredients, it is important also to follow the recommended storage conditions specified by the manufacturer of the formulation itself.

If you decide not to reuse the bottle, we recommend recycling it in accordance with the type of material indicated in the parameter table for the product on the Handymade website. The glass container should, after emptying and basic rinsing, be sorted into the appropriate glass collection container according to local waste-sorting rules. The plastic sprayer is generally sorted according to the material marking on the components, and it is advisable to separate it from the glass part. Always adapt the exact sorting method to the recommendations of your municipality or city.
