The glass container is a stable packaging that is in most cases also suitable for cosmetic formulations with a higher content of active ingredients, such as serums, oil elixirs or booster blends. For every new product, however, we recommend carrying out your own compatibility test – especially for acidic or highly alkaline formulations, as well as for products with atypical solvents. A small-scale storage test helps to verify long-term stability, visual changes of the product and the functionality of dispensing.

The bottle can be reused if hygienic principles are followed. Before each new filling, however, the packaging must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected in order to minimise the risk of microbial contamination and undesirable interactions with residues of the previous product. For final disinfection we recommend using a suitable alcohol-based agent, for example IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. After disinfection, allow the packaging to dry thoroughly at room temperature and only then fill it with a new product.

We recommend first mechanically rinsing the glass part with warm water and detergent, then rinsing several times with clean water and, if necessary, also using a suitable cleaning solution. After washing, disinfection of the inner surface with alcohol is important (for example using products available on Handymade), and the packaging must be allowed to dry completely. For the dispenser, it is appropriate to flush the internal channels with a compatible liquid (for example alcohol or water, depending on the product type), to pump several times repeatedly, and to reuse the dispenser only after it has completely dried. For significantly different types of formulations, it is therefore always advisable to replace the old dispenser with a new one.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend placing it in sorted collection according to the material specified in the product parameters. After emptying and basic rinsing, throw the glass bottle into the appropriate container intended for glass. The dispenser consists of a combination of materials, so it is usually separated from the glass and sorted according to local waste management rules, or handed over within municipal waste if the local system does not allow more detailed sorting. When recycling, always follow the recommendations of your municipality and be guided by the material designation in the product parameter table on the Handymade website.
