Product description
The 10 ml amber glass medicine bottle with a black and gold dropper is packaging for small doses of facial serums, oil concentrates, essential oil blends and samples that are dispensed drop by drop. Amber glass reduces light penetration and helps protect contents that are sensitive to light and oxidation. The dropper is included in the set, and the neck and thread fit together without any need to look for a separate closure.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the declaration of conformity and supporting documents are provided with the product. Only the glass bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food; the dropper does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial serums and oil serums – the small volume and drop-by-drop dispensing suit products that are applied in an amount of a few drops to the whole face.
- Essential oil blends and fragrance concentrates – dark glass slows changes in fragrance and colour caused by light, and precise dispensing makes it easier to dilute into carrier oils.
- Samples and test batches – a volume of 10 ml is enough to try out a formulation with a customer or to monitor the stability of a smaller batch before larger production.
- Herbal macerated oils and tinctures in small packs – the dropper measures the dose without pouring and without hands touching the contents.
How the dropper dispenses
The dropper consists of a glass tube, a squeeze bulb and a black and gold head with a thread. The contents are drawn up by squeezing the bulb while the tube is immersed in the bottle, and are released one drop at a time. The length of the dropper is matched to the height of this medicine bottle.
The size of the drop depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thin water-based serums and light oils drip quickly and evenly. Thicker oils and serums with a higher proportion of thickeners form a larger drop and flow more slowly. With very thick formulations the dropper is difficult to fill, and it is worth considering a pump.
When filling, leave some headspace in the neck so that the contents are not pushed out through the thread after the dropper is inserted.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them forms a reserve for the inserted dropper and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If more than the nominal volume is filled, the dropper pushes part of the contents out when screwed on and the thread becomes sticky.
Good to know
Before the first filling, the bottle and the dropper are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Residual water in the dropper tube would get into an anhydrous product and could affect its stability.
Do not fill the glass with hot contents. A sudden temperature change can damage it, so emulsions and oils are poured in only after they have cooled.
The dropper combines glass, silicone, PP and aluminium. It is mainly the glass tube that comes into contact with the contents; the bulb comes into contact with vapours and, when the bottle is turned over, with the contents. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking how the bulb behaves during use.
Closures with the same neck type, stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations of bottle and closure can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation.
Always store and transport the bottle upright. When the bottle lies on its side, the contents come into contact with the bulb and may leak through the thread.
The packaging can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. The glass bottle belongs in glass recycling; the dropper is separated before recycling, as it combines several materials.
