Product description

Glass dropper bottle, black glossy, 30 ml is a ready-made combination of an opaque black glass vial and a white-gold dropper, designed for drop-by-drop dispensing of small volumes. Black glass blocks light, so it protects light- and oxidation-sensitive contents better than clear or amber glass. It is particularly suitable for facial and oil serums, blends of carrier and essential oils, tinctures, and concentrated active blends, where dispensing is done by drops and preserving the efficacy of the contents matters.

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb, and a gold-coloured metal collar that screws onto the bottle neck. The dropper length is matched to the height of the bottle, so the tube reaches almost to the bottom and the contents can be drawn even at a low fill level. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle alone holds food-contact certification; the dropper does not, so the complete set as a whole is intended for cosmetics use.

What the set is suitable for

  • Oil serums and oil blends – glass is resistant to both carrier and essential oils, and the dropper allows precise dispensing of a few drops onto the skin.
  • Serums with light-sensitive active ingredients – for example those containing vitamin C, retinol, or plant extracts, which change colour and lose efficacy more quickly in a clear bottle.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based preparations – glass does not react with ethanol and the opaque packaging slows degradation of plant-based components.
  • Samples and test batches – the small volume is practical for trialling a formulation or for gift and travel packaging of a serum.
  • Bath or diffuser concentrates – wherever dispensing is done by drops and the contents need to remain protected.

Filling and volume

When filling, it is important to distinguish between nominal volume and total volume to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for during normal filling. The total volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them serves as a reserve for the dropper tube, which displaces some volume when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Both values are listed in the specifications.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If filled all the way to the neck, the contents will be pushed into the thread when the dropper is inserted, the packaging will then seal less effectively and the collar will become sticky.

The dropper is used by squeezing the bulb above the fill level, submerging the tube into the contents, and slowly releasing the bulb. With thicker oil-based contents, suction is slower, but drop-by-drop dispensing remains precise. With very thin alcohol-based contents, a drop may fall from the tube more quickly, so dispensing should be done directly above the target area.

What is worth knowing

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing both the bottle and dropper before use, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing them to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging reduces the stability of both anhydrous and water-based products.

When disinfecting, leave the dropper tube and the inside of the bottle to dry upside down on a clean surface. After cleaning, do not leave the bulb soaking in alcohol for extended periods, as this may cause the silicone to harden.

Opaque packaging. Black glass does not show how much contents remain. When selling, it is advisable to indicate the volume on the label; for personal use, bear in mind that you will not be able to see the fill level.

Silicone bulb and essential oils. Glass and the metal collar are resistant to essential oils; however, silicone may soften with prolonged contact with concentrated essential oils or solvents. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend storing the bottle upright so that the contents do not rest on the bulb, and verifying the dropper's behaviour with the specific formulation.

Glass and heat. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes. Allow the contents to cool to room temperature before filling.

Reuse. Both the bottle and dropper can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When switching to a different type of product, we recommend replacing the dropper, as the silicone may retain the scent of the previous contents.

Labelling. The glossy black glass is smooth and a label adheres well to the cylindrical section.

Closures. Closures with the same neck type, as stated in the specifications, and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing behaviour with the specific formulation.

Recycling. The bottle belongs in glass waste. The dropper is made of multiple materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, glossy black glass is opaque and protects contents from light better than a clear or amber bottle. It is therefore suitable for serums with vitamin C, retinol, plant extracts, and oil blends that oxidise more quickly when exposed to light. Light is not the only stability factor, however – temperature and air exposure with each opening also affect the contents.
How much can be filled into the dropper bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The total volume to the neck is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the dropper tube and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the bottle is filled all the way to the brim, the contents will be pushed into the thread when the dropper is screwed in and the packaging will no longer seal properly.
Is the glass dropper bottle suitable for oil serums and essential oils?
Yes, both the glass and the metal dropper collar are resistant to carrier and essential oils, and the packaging is commonly used for oil serums. The silicone bulb can withstand standard cosmetic dispensing of essential oils; however, it may soften with prolonged contact with concentrated blends. Store the bottle upright and verify the bulb's behaviour with the specific formulation.
Can the glass dropper bottle be used for food?
The complete set is not intended for contact with food. The glass bottle alone holds food-contact certification; the dropper does not. The bottle-and-dropper set is therefore declared suitable for cosmetic products, i.e. serums, oils, tinctures, and similar preparations. If you need packaging for food use, select a closure with food-contact certification to use with the bottle.
How are the glass bottle and dropper cleaned before reuse?
Wash both the bottle and dropper with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow to dry completely. Flush the dropper tube by drawing up and expelling clean water several times, then do the same with alcohol. The silicone bulb may retain the scent of the previous contents, so when changing to a different product type we recommend replacing the dropper with a new one.
Is the dropper suitable for water-based tonics and hydrolats?
Yes, the dropper dispenses water-based contents without any issue and glass does not react with them. With thin water-based and alcohol-based contents, however, the drop from the tube is less cohesive and falls more quickly, so dispensing should be done directly above the target area. For larger volumes of tonic, a spray is more practical; the dropper is suitable where only a few drops of concentrate are needed.
