Product description
The glossy black glass dropper bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml is designed for small amounts of facial serums, facial oil blends, nourishing nail and cuticle oils, concentrated active ingredients or samples of your own cosmetics. Black glass keeps light away from the contents, which you will appreciate with oils sensitive to oxidation, with serums containing vitamins and with blends containing essential oils. The dropper lets you take exactly as much as you need, without pouring and without your fingers touching the contents.
The set consists of a glossy black glass medicine bottle and a glossy silver dropper with an 18/410 neck finish. The glossy black surface with the silver closure looks cohesive and also suits gift packaging or a small run of products for sale. Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial serums and elixirs – the small volume and drop-by-drop dispensing match the way facial serums are usually used.
- Oil blends for face and nails – dark glass protects vegetable oils from light, and with the dropper you can apply a few drops directly onto the skin or into your palm.
- Diluted essential oils and fragrance blends in a carrier oil – dispensing drop by drop makes it easier to add precise amounts to a diffuser, a bath or a finished product.
- Samples and test batches – ten millilitres is enough to try out a formulation or to prepare a sample for a customer without wasting raw materials.
- Concentrated active ingredients – more expensive extracts are worth packaging in smaller volumes and protecting from light.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume, stated in the parameters, is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them leaves room for the glass tube of the dropper, which displaces part of the contents when screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes.
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill it up to the neck, the contents are pushed onto the thread when the dropper is inserted, the neck gets dirty and the closure then seals less well.
When filling thicker serums, a small funnel or a syringe without a needle works well, so that the contents do not run down the outer wall. After filling, wipe the neck and only then screw on the dropper.
Working with the dropper
The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone squeeze bulb and a glossy silver collar with a thread that screws onto the neck of the bottle. The length of the tube matches the height of this bottle, so you can take out the contents even when the level is low. Squeezing the bulb with the tube submerged draws in the liquid, and releasing the pressure in your palm or above the skin dispenses it drop by drop.
The size of the drop and the speed of drawing in depend on the viscosity of the contents. Thin oils and water-based serums are drawn in easily. Thicker gels and serums with a thickener move more slowly and the drop is usually larger. With very thick products, check in advance whether they can be dispensed with a dropper at all. A pump or a jar is more suitable for such textures.
The bottle has an 18/410 neck, so it can also be used with other closures with the same type of thread from the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the closure with your specific formulation.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash and disinfect the bottle and the dropper with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the tube would dilute anhydrous products and, with water-based products, increases the risk of microbial contamination.
Black glass does not show how much of the contents remains. When dispensing, you will notice it because the dropper draws in less. For a larger run, note down the filling date. The glossy black surface also shows fingerprints and traces of oil, so it is worth wiping the bottles before packing them for sale.
Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The dropper does not have this certificate, so the set as a whole is not intended for food and is used for cosmetics.
Glass withstands cleaning with hot water, but avoid sudden changes in temperature, for example pouring hot contents into a cold bottle. The silicone bulb of the dropper comes into contact only with the vapours above the liquid. For blends with a high proportion of pure essential oils or with solvents, we still recommend checking in advance that they do not change its elasticity or appearance. Rinse the tube and the bulb after use and let them dry. Do not leave the dropper inserted for a long time in aggressive contents that you will no longer be using.
The bottle and the dropper can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When reusing them, check that the bulb still holds its shape and that the tube is not cracked near the neck. For recycling, the glass bottle belongs with glass. The dropper is made of metal, plastic, silicone and glass, so separate it from the bottle before disposal and follow your local rules for mixed materials.
