However, before each new filling it is necessary to clean and disinfect the packaging thoroughly, to prevent microbiological contamination or impairment of the new contents. Only after thoroughly cleaning and drying the packaging is it appropriate to proceed with refilling it.

We recommend first rinsing the glass part of the bottle with warm water and a suitable cleaning agent, then rinsing thoroughly with clean water and allowing it to dry completely. After drying, it is advisable to disinfect the inner surface, for example using IPA 99 % or 96 % vegetable ethanol, which are available on Handymade.sk. The dropper and rubber or plastic parts need to be cleaned more gently – a short rinse with warm water and a mild cleaning agent, followed by rinsing and leaving to air dry. For sensitive formulations we recommend, before new filling, performing a test filling with a small amount of product and checking whether any undesirable changes in scent, colour or consistency occur.

Glass as a material is generally very suitable for concentrated oils, essential oils and aromatic blends, because it is chemically stable and less prone to interaction with the contents. However, when working with very concentrated or more aggressive components, we always recommend performing your own compatibility test – filling a small amount of product and observing the behaviour of the packaging and the dropper over time. It is important to monitor whether there is any impairment of the sealing, changes in the dropper material or leakage of the contents, in order to ensure the safety and stability of the final product.

If you decide not to reuse the bottle, we recommend recycling it according to the material type indicated in the parameter table for the specific product on Handymade.sk. The glass part can usually be sorted into the appropriate glass container after removing product residues and labels. It is advisable to separate the cap, dropper and other components and sort them by material (for example plastic, metal, rubber), if local recycling rules allow. Before handing the bottle over for recycling, we recommend at least roughly rinsing it, to minimise product residues in the waste stream.
