Product description

A glass bottle with a dropper is a ready-made set for filling and dispensing liquid cosmetic preparations that are applied drop by drop. The transparent glass reveals the colour and clarity of the contents, while the dropper measures out a precise amount without spillage. It is particularly suitable for facial serums, facial and hair oils, oil blends with essential oils, and tinctures in a volume of 100 ml — that is, for preparations where the customer uses only a few drops at a time and appreciates being able to see how much remains.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct food contact; the dropper does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use.

Why choose this set

  • Precise dosing – the dropper measures individual drops, which is practical for serums with active ingredients, concentrated oils or blends where the amount matters. The contents do not need to be poured through the neck and are less likely to become contaminated.
  • Glass does not affect the contents – glass is chemically stable, releases nothing into the fill, and does not absorb scent. It is therefore also suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures, which plastic packaging could gradually damage.
  • Transparent glass shows the contents – the customer can see the colour, clarity, and remaining quantity. For preparations where colour is part of the impression (tinted oils, herbal macerates), this is an advantage.
  • Silver appearance of the dropper – the glossy silver cap complements the clear glass and looks clean and cohesive without any additional finishing, which is appreciated for small batches without custom packaging design.

For which preparations is the set suitable

The set is intended for liquid and low-viscosity fills that the dropper can draw up and release drop by drop: facial serums on both water and oil bases, facial, hair and nail oils, oil blends with essential oils, herbal macerates and tinctures. It is also suitable for dispensing active ingredients and concentrates in small batches.

Less suitable for thick serums with a higher content of thickeners, gels and emulsions that the dropper cannot draw up or release. For such textures, packaging with a pump or a jar is more appropriate.

Transparent glass transmits light fully and does not protect the contents from it. For light-sensitive fills (unsaturated vegetable oils, vitamin C, retinol, many essential oils) we recommend storing the finished product away from direct light or choosing a dark glass bottle.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for during standard filling, and this is the volume that belongs on the label. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them allows for the dropper tube, which extends into the bottle and displaces some of the fill, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The exact values of both volumes are listed in the product parameters.

How the dropper works and what to watch out for

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb, and a threaded collar that screws onto the bottle neck. Squeezing the bulb draws the fill into the tube; squeezing again releases it drop by drop. The length of the dropper matches the height of this bottle, so the remaining contents can also be dispensed.

For fills with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing how the silicone bulb behaves in prolonged contact with the specific formulation before a larger batch. The glass part of the dropper and the bottle have no issue with this.

The set consists of a bottle with an 18/410 neck and a dropper with the same thread type. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. When using a different closure, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

What is good to know before filling

Before first use, we recommend washing and disinfecting the bottle and dropper with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil serum or tincture can impair product stability. Thorough drying is important for the glass tube of the dropper as well.

After screwing the dropper on, check that the collar seats evenly and seals properly. Transport filled products in an upright position; the dropper is not designed for the filled packaging to be stored lying down for extended periods.

Glass can withstand normal filling temperatures, but not sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot fill into a cold bottle, or vice versa.

The bottle is made of glass and can be reused — after washing and disinfecting, simply fill it again. When reusing the dropper, check it, especially the elasticity of the bulb. For recycling, the bottle goes into glass; the dropper, made of plastic, silicone and aluminium, should be separated from the bottle before disposal.

If you are filling water-based serums, bear in mind that the dropper comes into contact with air and hands with every use. Aqueous preparations in a dropper bottle therefore require reliable preservation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the transparent glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, transparent glass transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. It is suitable for fills that are not degraded by light, or for products stored in a box or dark cabinet. For oils prone to oxidation, vitamin C or retinol, dark glass is the safer choice. The advantage of transparent glass is that the customer can see the colour and the remaining quantity.
Can a glass bottle with a dropper be used for food?
The set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct food contact; the dropper does not. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics — that is, for serums, oils, tinctures and similar cosmetic preparations. If you need packaging for food use, choose a bottle with a closure that holds a food-contact certificate.
How much fill fits in a bottle with a dropper?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the brim is slightly larger, and this difference serves as a margin for the dropper tube, which displaces some of the fill when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If overfilled, the fill would overflow through the neck when the dropper is fitted.
Is the dropper suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures?
Yes, the glass bottle and the glass tube of the dropper handle essential oils and alcohol without any issues. For fills with a high proportion of pure essential oils, we recommend checking the behaviour of the silicone bulb during prolonged contact, as concentrated essential oils can soften some flexible materials over time. In commonly diluted oil blends and tinctures, the set is suitable without restriction.
How to prepare a glass bottle with a dropper before first filling?
Before first use, wash both the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allow them to dry completely. It is important that no water droplets remain in the dropper tube or in the bottle, especially with oil-based serums and anhydrous products. After filling, screw the dropper on so that the collar seats evenly and seals properly.
What is the difference between a bottle with a dropper and a bottle with a pump?
A dropper dispenses the fill drop by drop and is suitable for liquid serums, oils and tinctures where a few drops are used at a time. A pump releases a larger dose with a single press and can handle thicker textures, serums with thickeners or light emulsions. For thin oils and concentrates, a dropper is more precise; for thick serums and creamy textures, a pump is more appropriate.
