Glyceryl oleate is an ester of glycerin and oleic acid, a natural fatty acid typically derived from vegetable oils (e.g. olive or sunflower oil). It is industrially produced by esterification (reaction of glycerin with oleic acid or its derivatives) to produce a component that acts as a mild emollient, co-emulsifier and often as a re-fatting (lipid replenishing) ingredient, especially in washing products. In practice, it is used to make the product "softer" on the skin - it reduces the drying sensation after washing, improves slip and can promote the stability of emulsions or the texture of the finished product.
It is recommended to add during cooling (at temperatures below 40 °C).
It is most commonly used in wash products for a 're-fatting' effect, but in emulsions it can also act as an emollient/co-emulsifier - compatibility with the emulsifying system is crucial.
Yes, lipid additives often reduce clarity. If the goal is a clear product, it is usually necessary to optimize the tenside system and solubilization.
It can be used as a texturizing emollient, but the resulting "heaviness" and slip depend on the oils and esters chosen; in light serums, the dosage is kept rather low.
Rather no - lipids may dampen foaming slightly. Its benefit is mainly in softening the wash and improving the after-rinse feel.
Typical signals are separation, change in viscosity, deterioration in clarity or an unstable emulsion. Gradual dose titration and testing in combination with specific emulsifier/tensides helps.
