Product description

Neossance Hemisqualane is a lightweight, fast-absorbing, sugarcane-based emollient used as a modern alternative to silicones or light mineral oils. It is a high purity, stable hydrocarbon emollient produced biotechnologically - typically through fermentation of renewable plant sugars and subsequent processing to a fraction with a very pleasant "dry touch" feel.
In practice, hemisqualane is particularly popular because it imparts excellent slip to the product, reduces stickiness, improves spreadability, and at the same time does not leave a greasy film. In anhydrous products, it acts as a "light carrier" for oils and lipophilic actives, while in hair cosmetics it helps to smooth the surface of the hair without weighing it down.

Suitable for products such as

• facial oils and oil serums with a light texture,

• hair serums, oils for lengths and ends, rinse-free products,
• lip balms and solid butters (lightening and better application).

Use in formulation

• soluble in oil phase and miscible with most vegetable oils, esters, butters and waxes,
• compatible with common emulsification systems (O/V and V/O) as part of the oil phase,
• helps to reduce stickiness and "heavy" feel at higher proportions of castor oil, butters or dense esters.

It is recommended to be added during cooling (at temperatures below 40 °C).

Physical properties

• clear, low viscosity liquid with very easy slip,
• non-greasy, "dry touch" finish after application,
• high oxidative stability compared to many unsaturated oils.

Safety and storage

• A commonly used emollient with good tolerance in both leave-on and rinse-off products.
• For extremely sensitive skin, each emollient may exceptionally cause an individual reaction; a tolerance test in the finished formulation is recommended.
• Store dry, out of direct sunlight and in a tightly closed container to prevent contamination and unnecessary evaporation of light fractions.
