Product description
Cold-pressed hemp oil from the seeds of Cannabis sativa belongs among lightweight vegetable oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids. In formulation it serves as an emollient: it softens the skin, replenishes its lipids and helps reduce moisture loss. According to the manufacturer it absorbs quickly and leaves no significant greasy film, making it suitable for facial and body oils, serums, creams and hair care, for dry skin as well as oily and acne-prone.
The raw material comes from certified organic farming. It is obtained exclusively by mechanical pressing without heating and is not further refined, so it retains the original composition of the seeds. The oil is vegan, has not been tested on animals and is supplied in cosmetic and food grade quality.
Key benefits
- Lightweight emollient – softens and smooths the skin. The manufacturer describes it as a light oil that absorbs quickly without a greasy feel, making it suitable even for daily facial products.
- Fatty acid composition – according to the manufacturer's specification it contains 50 – 60 % linoleic acid, 10 – 18 % alpha-linolenic acid, up to 5 % gamma-linolenic acid and 8 – 18 % oleic acid.
- Hydration support – as an emollient it forms a thin layer on the skin that slows water evaporation. The skin remains more supple and smooth.
- Soothing effect – according to manufacturer data it helps reduce redness and the feeling of irritation, which is utilised in products for sensitive, dry or chapped skin.
- Antioxidant activity – the manufacturer indicates the presence of natural antioxidants and recommends the oil in formulations targeting signs of skin ageing.
- Hair and scalp – in hair oils and serums it helps soften the hair shaft, ease detangling and add shine. It can also be applied directly to the scalp.
Use in formulation
The oil is soluble in fats and oils and does not mix with water. In anhydrous products it is used directly; in emulsions it forms part of the oil phase and its proportion is chosen according to the desired texture and skin type. The recommended dosage range is wide, 1 – 100 %, so it can be used from small additions in creams to a pure facial or massage oil. Compatibility with common cosmetic raw materials is unrestricted.
The recommended processing temperature is below 40 °C. In emulsions prepared hot, do not include it in the heated oil phase; instead add it during the cooling phase or as a post-addition to the finished base.
In rinse-off products such as shower oils or bath blends it acts as a superfatting ingredient. In leave-on products it remains on the skin and its emollient effect is expressed in full.
For oily and acne-prone skin, try hemp oil on its own or combined with other lightweight oils with a high linoleic acid content. For dry and chapped skin, complement it with richer oils or butters that prolong the protective effect.
Suitable for products such as
- Facial oils and serums – for a light feel and fast absorption, including products for combination, oily and acne-prone skin.
- Body and massage oils – on their own or as the main component of a blend. Spreads well and leaves no heavy film.
- Body, hand and foot creams and lotions – as an emollient in the oil phase, especially in formulations for dry and rough skin.
- Hair oils, serums and masks – on hair ends and scalp, for shine and easier detangling.
- Shower and bath preparations – as a superfatting addition to cleansing ingredients.
Good to know
The colour ranges from light yellow to light green depending on the batch. At higher usage levels it may slightly tint pale emulsions greenish, which should be taken into account when designing the product. The scent is characteristic, nutty in nature. In unscented products with a high oil content the customer will notice it; in creams with a lower dosage it fades.
