Product description


Sophorolipids are natural biosurfactants produced by natural fermentation from renewable, non-GMO raw materials. They are surface-active substances of the glycolipid type, belonging to the same group as rhamnolipids or other microbial glycolipids, which are currently considered the most sustainable alternative to conventional surfactants. For the production of HoliSurf® HF, local manufacturing in the UK and a low-carbon production process are used. 

The HF (“High Foam”) form contains a high proportion of acidic sophorolipids, which provide excellent foaming, cleansing performance and exceptional mildness in formulations. The product is microbiome-friendly, vegan, COSMOS certifiable, highly biodegradable and also suitable for sensitive or problematic skin.

Use in formulation

  • Recommended dosage: 1 – 10 % (according to product type and desired foaming)
  • Excellent miscibility with other non-ionic and amphoteric surfactants
  • Can be combined with APG, CAPB, SLES for enhanced effect
  • Functions as a high-HLB emulsifier for O/W emulsions
  • Excellent solubiliser for essential oils
  • It is recommended to add during the cooling phase (at a temperature below 40 °C)

FAQ

Are sophorolipids suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin?

Yes. Tests confirm their ultra-mildness, non-irritating profile and support of the skin microbiome. They are also suitable for acne, dry or hypersensitive skin.


How do sophorolipids differ from rhamnolipids?

Both types belong to glycolipid-type biosurfactants, but sophorolipids are milder, more stable and available on a commercial scale. Rhamnolipids are more often industrial, with a stronger cleansing effect.


Is HoliSurf® HF suitable for sulfate-free formulations?

Yes. It is 100 % biodegradable, suitable for non-sulfate, non-palm and non-ethoxylate formulations.


Can it replace conventional synthetic foaming surfactants?

Yes. At a dosage of around 5 %, it shows comparable or better efficacy in cleansing and makeup removal compared to 12 % SLES or APG.


How is its foaming compared to other biosurfactants?

HoliSurf® HF is among the most highly foaming biosurfactants and significantly increases the stability and volume of foam in formulations.
