Foaming Sugar Scrub combines the mechanical exfoliation of sugar with the gentle foaming action of tenside, the detoxifying effect of activated charcoal and the nourishment of oils and butters. The result is a sensual shower product that cleanses and softens the skin while leaving it pleasantly supple and fragrant.
This type of scrub is ideal for regular use in the shower, especially for skin that looks tired, grey or prone to clogged pores. With a combination of surfactants, humectants and lipids, it leaves skin clean but not dry and is also suitable for those who want to avoid harsh sulfate tensides.
Prepare the working environment - disinfect (e.g. with ethanol) all containers, utensils and packaging and leave to dry. Although the peel is a rinse product, the high sugar and oil content requires clean conditions to minimize microbial growth.
Weigh the Phase B ingredients - Glyceryl Caprylate/Caprate, fractionated coconut oil and cupuacu butter - into a heat-resistant container. Place the container in a water bath and stir over moderate heat until the butter is completely dissolved (hold at approximately 70°C).
In a separate container, mix Decyl Glucoside and glycerine. Stir slowly so as not to introduce too much foam into the mixture.
Place the sugar in a bowl, add the liquid oil phase B, which has cooled slightly, then mix in the tenside phase C. Then add activated charcoal, alpha-bisabolol, vitamin E and fragrance oil (phase D) and mix everything thoroughly so that no lumps form.
Fill the finished scrub into clean, dry cups. To use, apply a small amount to damp skin, massage gently and rinse thoroughly with warm water after a short massage. It is recommended to scoop the product with a spatula and store it in a dry, cool place.
You will get a thick, foaming sugar scrub with activated charcoal that will thoroughly smooth the skin, rid it of dead cells and impurities, but at the same time leave it supple, soft and pleasantly scented. It's ideal for the body, décolleté and areas prone to clogged pores, like a little home spa ritual in the shower.
The scrub is primarily designed for the body, especially areas with thickened or oilier skin. It can be used on the face only occasionally, in small amounts and without pressure, avoiding the eye area and very sensitive areas. For very sensitive or dry skin, a gentler scrub with less sugar and no activated charcoal is preferable.
For normal to oily skin, it is recommended to use the scrub approximately 1-2 times a week. For dry or more sensitive skin, it is advisable to extend the interval to 10-14 days and monitor the skin's reaction during use. Exfoliating too often can disrupt the barrier function of the skin and lead to irritation.
If you don't want a significantly dark product, you can replace some or all of the activated charcoal with a fine clay, such as white kaolin or pink clay. This way you still get a cleansing, but visually softer scrub. When substituting, it is advisable to do a trial test batch as clays have different densities and will affect the final consistency.
The formulation is high in sugar and does not contain a free aqueous phase, which naturally limits the growth of microorganisms. Nevertheless, the product is exposed to moisture in the bathroom and repeated contact with water during scooping. It is therefore important to work cleanly, use disinfected equipment, scoop the product with a spatula and store it in a dry environment. If you enrich the scrub with an aqueous phase (e.g. hydrate), you must use a suitable preservative system and test for stability.
When stored properly in a clean, tightly sealed container, out of direct sunlight and excessive heat, the scrub should last for several months at a stable quality. Keep an eye on the smell, colour and consistency - if you notice a change, do not use the product again. Always follow the best before date of the ingredients used, especially the oils and vitamin E.
