Product description

Palm kernel oil is extracted from the seeds of the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis). It is different from palm oil, which is extracted from the pulp of the fruit. The fact that they both come from the same tree is actually the only thing they have in common. Palm kernel oil has a solid consistency at room temperature.

It contains almost 50% saturated lauric acid (C12), 14% myristic acid and 9% palmitic acid

It is used in both food and cosmetics - especially for the feel it leaves on the skin and its popularity in soap making.

Its composition is similar to coconut oil and it is often used as a substitute for coconut oil (babassu oil has similar properties in soap making). Its fatty acid composition ensures its hardness, cleansing properties and ability to form a rich lather. But as with coconut oil, it is not recommended to add more than 30% to a recipe as it can then dry out the skin.
