FAQ – Most frequent questions

How should the plastic medicine bottle with pump be used correctly in home cosmetic making?

First prepare the contents in a separate clean container and only then fill them into the bottle to minimize contamination of the walls of the packaging. Before first use, press the pump several times until the system fills and ensures even dosing. For thicker emulsions we recommend filling the packaging slowly and making sure that no large air bubbles form in the contents, which could affect the first doses during application.

Can this packaging be safely reused?

The packaging can be reused if you observe basic hygiene rules. Before each new filling, the bottle and the pump must be carefully cleaned and then disinfected with a suitable agent, for example isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. For disinfection you can use the products IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. After disinfection, let the packaging dry completely and only then refill it, so that no residual moisture or residues of the cleaning agent get into the new product.

How is it recommended to clean and disinfect the plastic medicine bottle with pump?

After the contents have been used up, disassemble the packaging into individual parts (bottle, pump, possibly cap) and thoroughly rinse out any product residues. Use warm water and a mild cleaning agent that is suitable for contact with the given type of plastic. Then rinse the surfaces with clean water, remove visible foam residues and let them dry. After washing we recommend disinfecting all parts – it is practical to spray or pour a small amount of alcohol (e.g. IPA 99 % or ethanol 96 %) into the packaging, shake it, possibly pump some through the pump and then let everything dry freely at room temperature.

How to safely dispose of and recycle this packaging if I do not want to use it further?

First use up or remove the residues of the original product and rinse the packaging so that no pronounced traces of the filling remain. Then separate the plastic bottle from the pump and check the recycling mark in the product parameter table on the Handymade website. According to the indicated type of plastic, place the individual parts into the appropriate sorted waste. If the recycling mark cannot be clearly classified or the local sorting system requires a different procedure, follow the instructions of your waste collection company. Prefer recycling to ordinary municipal waste so that the material can be further processed.
