Product description

Plastic bottle, transparent round, white cap, 500 ml

Ready-made set of a 500 ml PET bottle and a white screw cap with a 24/410 neck finish: fill the bottle and close it right away, without searching for a compatible closure. It is lightweight and shatterproof, and through the transparent wall you can see the colour and level of the contents. It is particularly suitable for liquid and mildly viscous cosmetic preparations that are used up quickly and do not need protection from light: shampoos, shower gels, body lotions, tonics, micellar waters, massage oils and liquid soaps. Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

The cap simply screws onto the neck. The ribbed surface makes opening easier even with wet hands, and the inner sealing insert helps keep the contents in the bottle during normal storage and transport.

What the set is suitable for

  • Rinse-off cosmetics – shampoos, shower gels, conditioners and liquid soaps. A 500 ml volume corresponds to standard bathroom packaging and shatterproof PET is safer in the bathroom than glass.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – more fluid emulsions pour well from the bottle. For thick creams, a jar or pot is more suitable; they are difficult to dispense through a narrow neck.
  • Tonics, hydrolates and micellar waters – aqueous solutions without a high alcohol content and without sensitivity to light.
  • Massage and body oils – vegetable oils in a PET bottle are generally fine; store them in the dark, however.
  • Stock and work bottles – for your own semi-finished products, distilled water or work-in-progress bases in the workshop, where a transparent container makes it easy to check the level.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the brim is greater, because the bottle has a headspace above the nominal fill level in the shoulder and neck area. This headspace is necessary for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow or press against the seal once the cap is screwed on.

Replacing the cap

The bottle has a 24/410 neck finish. The supplied cap can be replaced with a pump or a spray with the same neck type. In the Handymade range you will find them separately as well as in ready-made combinations with this bottle. When creating your own combination, always check the seal, dispensing and cap performance with the specific formulation beforehand, especially with thicker emulsions and oils.

Good to know

Before filling for the first time, rinse both the bottle and the cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol as needed, and leave to dry completely. Residual water in the container could dilute the preservative system and potentially impair product stability.

PET should be filled cold or after the contents have cooled down. A hot emulsion or liquid soap immediately after cooking may deform the bottle and compromise the cap seal.

Transparent PET does not provide protection against light. For preparations with a high content of unsaturated oils, vitamin C, retinoids or essential oils sensitive to oxidation, choose a dark container or store the bottle away from direct light.

Concentrated essential oils, solvents and preparations with a high alcohol content may stress the plastic over time. Check suitability for such contents on a single bottle for several weeks before filling in larger quantities.

The bottle can be reused as long as it can be cleaned properly and is not scratched or cloudy. When changing contents, always wash and disinfect it and check that the sealing insert of the cap is not retaining residue from the previous product. A flexible film label is suitable for the round body; a paper label may crinkle on the curve. The set is declared for cosmetics and is not declared for contact with food. Both the bottle and the cap are made of commonly recyclable plastics; when empty, sort them with plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the transparent 500 ml PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, transparent PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. The bottle is suitable for preparations that are not affected by light, such as shampoos, shower gels or body lotions with a good antioxidant system. For oils sensitive to oxidation or active ingredients that degrade in light, amber or blue glass or storage in the dark is preferable.
Can I fill the PET bottle with a hot liquid soap or emulsion?
No, PET is not intended for hot filling. Allow the finished product to cool to room temperature or a slightly elevated temperature before pouring it into the bottle. Hot contents can deform the walls and, once the cap is screwed on, a vacuum forms during cooling that pulls the bottle in and impairs the seal.
Is the bottle and cap set suitable for food?
No, this set is declared for contact with cosmetic products only. Neither the bottle nor the cap has a declaration for direct food contact, so we do not recommend it for homemade syrups, kitchen oils or beverages. For cosmetic preparations, liquid soaps and cleaning bases it is fine to use.
How much does a bottle with a nominal volume of 500 ml actually hold?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 500 ml; physically, more fits in it up to the brim. The difference is the headspace for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, which is why it is filled to the nominal volume and not to the neck. When filling by weight, account for the density of the product — 500 ml of oil weighs less than 500 ml of an aqueous solution.
Can the white cap be replaced with a pump or spray?
Yes, the bottle neck has a 24/410 thread and any closure with the same neck type can be screwed onto it. A pump will make dispensing shampoo or lotion easier; for thick emulsions, however, check whether it can draw them up. When creating your own combination, always check the seal on a single unit first.
Is the transparent PET bottle suitable for massage oil with essential oils?
Yes, at a standard dosage of essential oils of a few percent, vegetable oil in a PET bottle is fine. However, concentrated essential oils or blends with solvents can stress the plastic over time, so for such contents it is better to use glass. Since the bottle does not protect from light, store the oil in the dark and use it within a reasonable time.
