Product description

Sea buckthorn fruit CO₂-to extract BIO is a nutrient-rich plant oil extract obtained from dried fruits of Hippophae rhamnoides by means of supercritical carbon dioxide extraction. This gentle process takes place without the use of chemical solvents and preserves the full spectrum of bioactive components – from unsaturated fatty acids to carotenoids, tocopherols and phytosterols. It has an orange-red colour, a delicate fruity aroma and an oily consistency. The extract is stabilised with an organic rosemary antioxidant, which protects its sensitive components from oxidation. It is a CO₂-to (total extract) – a complete extract that contains all lipid components of sea buckthorn, including fatty acids, waxes and natural antioxidants.

Type of extraction: Supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (CO₂)
Denomination: CO₂-to – total extract (complete extract with all lipid components)
D/E ratio: 7 – 10 kg of dried sea buckthorn fruits per 1 kg of extract
Composition: 99.9 % CO₂ extract from sea buckthorn fruits (BIO), 0.1 % rosemary antioxidant (BIO)

Key benefits

  • High content of essential fatty acids – contains palmitoleic acid (omega-7), linoleic acid and α-linolenic acid, which regenerate and strengthen the skin barrier.
  • Supports skin regeneration – stimulates the renewal process of epidermal cells, promotes wound healing and minimises scarring.
  • Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect – protects the skin against premature ageing and reduces inflammatory responses.
  • Improves skin hydration and elasticity – helps maintain a healthy moisture balance and promotes a smooth, radiant appearance of the skin.
  • Versatile cosmetic use – suitable for anti-ageing, regenerative, sun care and hair care products.

Suitable for products such as

  • Anti-ageing and regenerative face creams
  • Oil serums, body oils and lotions
  • Balms for dry, cracked or irritated skin
  • Shampoos, conditioners and hair masks for restoring damaged hair
  • Sun care and after-sun products

Use in formulation

  • Recommended dosage: 1 – 10 %
  • Temperature stability: It is recommended to add during the cooling phase (at a temperature below 40 °C)
  • Compatibility: Compatible with vegetable oils, waxes and CO₂ extracts
  • Handling: Before use, warm to approx. 40 °C and shake well to restore a homogeneous consistency.

Cosmetic use

In cosmetics, sea buckthorn extract has an exceptionally wide range of applications. It contains the rarely occurring palmitoleic acid (omega-7), which is a natural component of skin sebum. This fatty acid stimulates regenerative processes in the epidermis, supports the healing of minor injuries and helps to minimise the formation of scars. Other unsaturated fatty acids (especially linoleic and α-linolenic acid) increase skin hydration, while carotenoids and tocopherols provide strong antioxidant protection. Sea buckthorn extract therefore works excellently in anti-age products, nourishing care for dry, cracked or sensitive skin and in products targeting skin imperfections. It also has anti-inflammatory and soothing effects, thanks to which it is used in sun care and regenerative (after-sun) cosmetics. In hair care, it strengthens the hair fibres, restores damaged ends and improves shine, which is why it is added to shampoos, conditioners and nourishing masks.

Safety and storage

For external use only. Store in a cool, dry and dark place, well closed and out of reach of children. Warm to 40 °C and shake before use. It is recommended to store in dark containers in order to maintain the stability of carotenoids and fatty acids.

FAQ

What makes sea buckthorn CO₂ extract so exceptional?

Sea buckthorn contains a unique combination of fatty acids, vitamins, carotenoids and antioxidants. In particular, palmitoleic acid (omega-7) supports cell regeneration and healing, while tocopherols and sterols protect the skin from oxidative stress.

For which skin type is sea buckthorn extract suitable?

It is suitable for all skin types, especially dry, sensitive, mature or damaged skin. It supports its regeneration, restores elasticity and helps maintain healthy hydration.

Can sea buckthorn extract be used in hair care products?

Yes, sea buckthorn extract strengthens the hair, regenerates its structure and gives it a natural shine. At the same time, it improves the condition of the scalp and helps prevent it from drying out.

What does the designation “CO₂-to” mean?

The designation CO₂-to means total extract – a complete CO₂ extract that contains the full spectrum of plant substances, including fatty acids, waxes and antioxidants. This type of extract is more nourishing and more stable than “selective” (CO₂-se) extracts, which contain only volatile components.
