Yes, the packaging can be reused if hygiene principles are observed. Before each new filling, we recommend thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the bottle and the sprayer in order to minimize the risk of microbial contamination. To disinfect the inner surface of the packaging and the applicator, it is appropriate to use IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured (plant-based). The disinfectant must be allowed to evaporate completely before refilling the packaging.
The bottle with sprayer is most suitable for liquid products with low to medium viscosity that are to be applied in the form of a fine mist. This applies in particular to facial and body sprays, hydrolats, hair lotions, interior and textile sprays, or disinfectant solutions for surfaces. For thicker emulsions and gels, spraying may be limited – in such a case it is more appropriate to choose another dosing format (for example a pump).
First, the bottle needs to be disassembled – separate the glass part from the sprayer. The glass container can be washed with warm water and a mild detergent, rinsed thoroughly and then disinfected using a suitable alcohol, for example the products IPA 99 % or ethanol 96 %. We recommend rinsing the sprayer with lukewarm water and then “spraying through” several times with clean water or a disinfectant solution to remove residues of the previous contents. Before refilling, allow all parts to dry completely.
If you decide not to reuse the packaging, we recommend recycling it according to the material indicated in the product parameters. The glass part of the bottle is usually sorted into the container designated for glass, while the plastic sprayer (head, tube and any caps) belongs with plastics. Before disposal, it is advisable to empty the bottle and minimize any product residues. Always adapt the specific sorting method to local waste-management rules and the information given in the product parameters.
The simplest solution is to use the advanced filter in the packaging categories. After clicking on the relevant category (for example bottles, jars or sprayers), you will find advanced filtering options at the top of the page, where you can select packaging according to several criteria – neck finish, size, colour and material. This allows you to quickly narrow down the selection to packaging that matches your product and the intended dosing method.
If the sprayer does not produce an even mist, first check whether the bottle is correctly and firmly screwed on and whether the dip tube is not too long or kinked. Then try pressing the mechanism quickly several times to prime/air the system. If the product is very viscous or contains larger undissolved particles, clogging may occur – in such a case it is advisable to filter the formulation or choose another type of dosing. For new combinations of packaging and fill product, we always recommend carrying out a compatibility test on a smaller trial batch.
