Yes, the packaging can be reused with appropriate handling; however, we recommend following strict hygiene rules. Before each refilling, the bottle and the sprayer must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Products such as IPA 99% – isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96% denatured, plant-based are suitable for disinfection. Only after the inner surfaces are completely dry is the bottle ready to be refilled.

After the contents have been used up, we recommend rinsing the bottle with warm water and a mild detergent, and then “spraying through” the sprayer several times with clean water to remove product residues from the tube and the sprayer head. For thicker or oil-based formulations, it is advisable to first use a small amount of alcohol, which will make it easier to remove residues. After cleaning, allow all parts to dry naturally at room temperature.

The trigger sprayer is ideal for water-based and low-viscosity solutions such as hydrolats, face and body sprays, toners, air fresheners, fabric sprays and mild cleaning solutions. With thicker or highly oily formulations, the spraying performance may deteriorate, therefore we recommend first making a small test batch and checking whether the selected viscosity is suitable for the specific sprayer type.

If you decide not to use the bottle with sprayer any longer, we recommend first emptying it completely and rinsing it so that no residues of the original product remain. The subsequent method of sorting and recycling is determined by the type of plastic material indicated in the parameter table on the product page on Handymade. According to the recycling symbol marking, place the packaging in the appropriate container for sorted waste. In the case of combined materials, the bottle body and the sprayer head can be sorted separately, if allowed by the local collection system.

The packaging is generally suitable for many formulations containing alcohol and essential oils; however, we always recommend an individual compatibility test. In a smaller amount, check the behaviour of the plastic and the sprayer in contact with your specific formulation – observe changes in colour, flexibility, sealing and spraying functionality. This procedure is particularly important in the case of a high alcohol content or intense aromatic blends.
