Massage oil base is an oil base for anyone who wants to quickly create their own massage or body oil with a professional skin feel. The blend has been developed directly with massage therapists and is built on a combination of plant oils that complement each other: they provide a long, smooth glide for massage, while not leaving an unnecessarily heavy film and the skin remains pleasantly soft.
The base is made up mainly of oils obtained by pressing seeds and kernels – jojoba from Simmondsia chinensis (liquid wax), almond Prunus amygdalus dulcis, hemp Cannabis sativa and grapeseed Vitis vinifera. The blend uses both cold-pressed oils and refined oils, thanks to which the base is milder in odour, more stable and ideal for perfuming and working with active ingredients.
Jojoba oil gives the blend a silky glide and supports skin comfort, almond oil provides softening and a “body” feel, hemp oil complements the lipid profile, and grapeseed oil together with MCT oil ensure lightness and faster absorption without stickiness. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant – it helps protect the blend against oxidation and maintain a pleasant sensorial profile even with regular use.

Use in a formulation

The base is ready for direct use; it is compatible with anhydrous (oil-based) ingredients and is miscible with other plant oils and oil macerates.
Active ingredients that can be added (depending on solubility in oils and recommended dosage): oil extracts and macerates, oil forms of vitamins (e.g. vitamin A/retinoid derivatives intended for cosmetics, vitamin E), CO₂ extracts soluble in oils, bisabolol, squalane, ceramides in oil dispersion or other oil-based actives declared by the manufacturer for anhydrous products.
Fragrances and perfuming: you can use essential oils or fragrance oils/perfume compositions intended for cosmetics. For fragrance oils and perfume compositions it is necessary to monitor IFRA limits for the given product type (e.g. leave-on body product) and adjust the dosage according to the supplier’s recommendations.
For a clear result, mix slowly and thoroughly; after blending, allow the mixture to stand so that air bubbles can be released.

How can I tell whether a specific active ingredient is suitable for an anhydrous (oil) base?

Check the manufacturer’s information on solubility: the active must be intended for use in oils or anhydrous formulations. If it states “oil-soluble” or “oil soluble”, it is suitable. For “water-soluble” or “for emulsions”, an emulsion is required, not a neat oil.

Why is it important to follow IFRA when using fragrance oils and perfume compositions?

IFRA sets recommended usage limits for individual fragrance components depending on the product type. By respecting these limits, you reduce the risk of irritation and ensure that the dosage is in line with common safety recommendations for cosmetics.

Can I add water-based extracts or hydrating substances such as glycerin to the oil base?

Not directly. Water-based extracts and water-soluble hydrating substances will not dissolve in oil and the mixture will separate. If you want to combine oil and water-based components, it is necessary to prepare an emulsion with a suitable emulsifier.

How can I achieve a “sports” effect (cooling or warming) in a massage oil?

You use oil-compatible raw materials intended for cosmetics (e.g. menthol components or selected essential oils). Always adjust the dosage to the skin’s sensitivity and to the supplier’s recommendations so that the effect is pleasant and safe.

If I want an unscented oil, how can I minimise the natural aroma of plant oils?

It helps to use refined oils and light emollients (such as MCT) that have a more neutral profile. Store the blend away from light and heat, as oxidation can intensify the natural aroma over time.
