Product description

The Zenicolor 5 set is five liquid dyes for colouring melt and pour soap bases – ready-made soap bases that are melted, coloured, scented and poured into a mould. The dyes are prepared in a soap carrier, so they blend into the melted base evenly and without clumps. Individual shades can be mixed with each other, so from five colours a wide palette of custom tones is created for both transparent and opaque soaps.

The base consists of pigments dispersed in a carrier of water, soap and glycerin, i.e. in an environment close to the soap base itself. The dye therefore does not need to be pre-diluted or rubbed into oil – it is enough to add it drop by drop to the melted base.

Why choose the Zenicolor 5 set

  • The same base as the soap mass – the dye carrier consists of soap and water, so the dye dissolves in the melted base without residue and leaves no grains or stains.
  • Mixable shades – five dyes work as a palette; the resulting tone is created by the ratio of drops, which makes it possible to match the soap colour with the fragrance or packaging.
  • Transparent and white bases – in a clear base the dyes produce rich, translucent tones; in a white base, soft pastel, opaque shades are formed.
  • Pigment base – pigments generally have less tendency to migrate between layers than water-soluble dyes, which is an advantage in multicolour soaps; it is advisable to test the behaviour of a specific combination on a trial piece.
  • Cosmetic quality – the dyes are paraben-free and intended for rinse-off products, i.e. soaps that are rinsed off the skin.

Use in formulation

The dye is added to the melted soap base drop by drop with slow stirring. Fast stirring introduces air into the base and causes bubbles, so it is recommended to stir with a spoon or spatula along the wall of the container. The manufacturer does not specify exact dosage; work from a small amount and add drops until the shade matches the desired result. When combining colours, it is practical to first mix the shade in a small amount of base and note the drop ratio so it can be repeated.

The colour of the liquid base changes after setting – in a white base the result is usually lighter and in a transparent base more saturated. Before colouring a larger batch, therefore, pour a test piece and assess the shade only after it has cooled.

The set is intended for melt and pour soap bases. Behaviour in cold process soap has not been verified; if you want to try the dyes in such a process, we recommend testing on a small batch.

Undiluted dye is classified as corrosive (GHS05). Use gloves and eye protection when handling, prevent contact with skin, and keep dyes out of reach of children. The classification applies to the undiluted dye; details are in the safety data sheet.

Suitable for products such as

  • Transparent glycerin soaps – the dye preserves the clarity of the base, suitable for bright, vivid shades and a glass effect.
  • Opaque soaps from white base – in opaque base, soft pastel tones are created, suitable for children's or gift soaps.
  • Layered and embedded soaps – thanks to the pigment base, it is possible to work with contrasting layers and shaped inserts.
  • Soap decorations and small shapes – soap confetti, flowers and embeds for transparent soaps, where colour intensity matters.

Good to know

  • Order of addition – the dye is added after melting the base and before the fragrance, so that the colour can be assessed on a clean base; fragrance oils may slightly shift the shade.
  • Moderate dosage – at very high dye concentration, the soap may stain the lather and towel, so the intensity is adjusted gradually, drop by drop.
  • Cleaning tools – containers and spoons are washed with warm water immediately after use, before the residual base solidifies.

Frequently asked questions

How are Zenicolor 5 dyes added to soap base?
The dye is added drop by drop to the melted soap base and stirred slowly. Thanks to the soap carrier, it dissolves without clumps, so it does not need to be pre-diluted or rubbed into oil. Work from a small amount until the shade matches the desired result, and assess the colour only after the test piece has set.
Can you mix a custom shade from the Zenicolor 5 set?
Yes, the five dyes are intended for mixing with each other. The shade is created by the ratio of drops of individual colours, which can be noted and repeated in the next batch. The most reliable approach is to mix the colour first in a small amount of base and only then colour the full batch.
Are Zenicolor 5 dyes suitable for transparent soap base?
Yes, in transparent base the dyes produce rich, translucent tones, making them suitable for a stained glass effect and embedded decorations. In white base, the same dye produces a pastel, opaque shade. Since the colour changes after setting, the shade should be assessed on a cooled test piece.
Do Zenicolor 5 dyes migrate between soap layers?
The dyes are pigment-based, and pigments generally have less tendency to migrate between layers than water-soluble dyes. Sharp boundaries are therefore better preserved in multicolour soaps. It is advisable to test the behaviour of a specific combination of base, dosage and fragrance on a trial piece before pouring the full series.
Why does the Zenicolor 5 set carry a warning pictogram?
Undiluted dye is classified as corrosive, hence the GHS05 pictogram. The classification applies to the dye in the container, which is handled with gloves and eye protection, not to the finished soap in which the dye is only one of the ingredients. Detailed instructions for safe handling are in the safety data sheet.
