Yellow illite is a natural clay-based mineral, used mainly in cleansing and mattifying cosmetics. It is a mixture of Illite and Kaolin. It is extracted by mining from natural deposits, then mechanically cleaned, dried and finely ground into a powder suitable for cosmetic use.The yellow colour is due to the natural mineral composition of the deposit. In practice, yellow clay is popular in masks, powder cleansing blends and body wraps, where it helps bind excess sebum and leaves the skin fresh and mattified.
Yellow clay is a blend of illite and kaolin, so it can be more "active" in absorbing sebum than kaolin alone, while retaining the softer feel typical of kaolin ingredients.
A shorter application time, a thinner layer, and adding humectants (such as glycerin) to the formula can help. The mask should be washed off before it dries completely.
It is not recommended without preservation. After mixing with water, the mixture can work microbiologically, so it is safer to always mix a fresh batch.
Yes, the natural mineral colouring can tint the finished product. For color sensitive formulas, we recommend testing in a small batch.
Do a small test in a test batch and observe settling after 24-72 hours. If settling occurs, increase the viscosity, adjust the powder ratio, or consider using a stabilizing thickener appropriate for the product type.
