Product description

A small 5 ml amber glass bottle with a dropper insert and black cap for dispensing liquids drop by drop – especially essential oils and their blends, fragrance compositions, concentrated oil serums, tinctures, samples, and test batches. Supplied as a ready-to-use set that only needs to be filled and closed. Amber glass filters light, protecting contents sensitive to oxidation, and the small volume makes it easy to divide more expensive raw materials into smaller portions or prepare samples for customers.

How the set works

  • Dropper insert – a transparent plastic piece that presses into the bottle neck. When tilted, it releases the contents drop by drop without spilling, and when the bottle is open it slows evaporation of volatile components.
  • Cap – a black screw-on closure that tightens over the dropper insert. It seals the bottle, reduces scent loss, and protects the dropper from contamination.
  • Amber glass – chemically stable, does not absorb odours from previous contents, and filters light. Suitable for contents that could gradually degrade a plastic container.

What the set is suitable for

Best suited for thin to medium-viscosity contents dispensed in small amounts: pure essential oils, aromatherapy blends, fragrance and perfume concentrates, alcohol tinctures, lightweight oil serums for the face, cuticles or beard, and raw material samples during formulation development. Watery contents such as hydrosols or tonics can also pass through the dropper, but a spray bottle is usually more practical for these.

Less suitable for thick oils and viscous serums – the dropper insert has a narrow opening and dense contents flow through it slowly or not at all. For such formulations, packaging with a pump or a wider neck is more appropriate.

Filling and volume

The bottle has a nominal volume and a total volume to the brim; both values are listed in the specifications. Nominal volume is the amount the container is designed for during normal filling. Total volume is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dropper insert, which when pressed in extends into the bottle and displaces some of the contents, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will overflow when the dropper insert is fitted.

Fill the bottle before fitting the dropper insert, ideally using a narrow funnel. Then press the dropper insert straight into the neck until fully seated, and hand-tighten the cap; over-tightening will not improve the seal.

Useful to know

  • Preparation before first use – we recommend washing the bottle, dropper insert, and cap, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing to dry completely. Residual water has no place in anhydrous contents.
  • Reuse – the glass can be washed and used again. After removing the dropper insert from the neck, check before the next use that it sits firmly and seals properly; when changing contents it is safer to use a new one.
  • Plastic and concentrated contents – the dropper insert and cap are made of plastic. With pure essential oils with a high proportion of citrus components or with solvents, we recommend checking whether the plastic parts deform or soften over time.
  • Glass and heat – do not pour hot contents into the bottle and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes; the glass may crack.
  • Labelling – the label area is small; dimensions are listed in the specifications. Narrow labels with the product name and batch number work well on small bottles.
  • Contact with cosmetics – the set is declared as suitable for use with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity is included with the product. The set is not intended for food packaging.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck type and further ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing performance with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – glass goes into glass recycling; the plastic dropper insert and cap are sorted separately as plastic.

Always store volatile contents, especially essential oils, with the cap tightened. The dropper insert alone is not a sealing closure, and with prolonged exposure some of the contents will evaporate.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 5 ml amber glass bottle protect essential oils from light?
Yes, amber glass filters light transmission and slows the oxidation of the contents, which in the case of essential and carrier oils would alter their scent and quality. It is not a complete barrier, so bottles with light-sensitive contents should be stored away from direct sunlight and in a cool place. Light protection is one of the main reasons amber glass is chosen for essential oils over clear glass.
How much does the 5 ml dropper bottle actually hold?
Fill to the nominal volume of 5 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger, but this reserve is taken up by the pressed-in dropper insert and the space needed for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled higher, the contents will overflow through the neck when the dropper insert is fitted, contaminating the thread and preventing the cap from seating tightly.
Can the dropper insert be removed and the bottle reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected, and refilled. The dropper insert can be pried out of the neck, but may become slightly deformed in the process and may not seal as well when refitted. When changing contents, especially when switching from a fragrance composition to a different product, it is more reliable to fit a new dropper insert to avoid transferring the scent.
Is the 5 ml dropper bottle suitable for thick oils and serums?
Only to a limited extent – the dropper insert has a narrow opening and thick contents flow through it slowly or stop altogether. The set is designed for thin liquids such as essential oils, tinctures, and light alcohol-based or oil-based contents. For viscous serums, castor oil, or thickened emulsions, packaging with a pump or a wider neck is more appropriate.
How precisely can contents be dispensed drop by drop?
Drop size depends on the viscosity and surface tension of the contents, so it is not the same for every ingredient. For formulations where precise quantities matter, always count drops using the same dropper insert, or weigh the ingredient instead. For everyday use, such as adding a few drops of essential oil to a carrier oil, drop-by-drop dispensing is accurate enough.
