Product description
This matte amber glass medicine bottle with a volume of 30 ml, complete with a plastic dropper insert and a black cap, is used for filling and dispensing liquid preparations where the exact amount and protection from light matter. Amber glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents, so the set is particularly suitable for facial serums, facial and hair oils, blends with essential oils, tinctures or oil extracts, which lose potency faster in a clear container. The matte finish gives the bottle a non-glossy surface. The 30 ml volume corresponds to a common size of facial serum or oil that is used up within a few weeks.
The set consists of three parts: a glass bottle with an 18 mm neck, a long polypropylene dropper insert that fits into the neck, and a black polyethylene cap with an 18/410 neck finish. All three parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and a declaration of conformity is available for each component. The set is not approved for contact with food and is intended for cosmetics.
How to use the set
After filling, the dropper insert is pressed into the neck of the bottle and the contents are then dispensed drop by drop by tilting the bottle. Only the amount needed is taken with each use. Fingers and air come into contact with the remaining contents less than with a wide neck. The cap screws onto the neck over the dropper insert and closes the bottle.
The dropper insert is designed for liquid and slightly viscous contents. Thick oils, gels or emulsions flow slowly through the small opening, and dispensing drop by drop becomes inconvenient. For such formulations it is worth choosing a different type of closure with the same neck.
When filling, it is important to distinguish between the nominal volume and the brimful volume; both values are given in the bottle parameters. The nominal volume is the amount the container is intended for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the space in the neck when inserted, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. If it were filled up to the neck, part of the contents would be pushed out when the dropper insert is pressed in, and the neck would remain soiled, which impairs the seal of the cap.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial serums – oil-based and water-based serums with light-sensitive active ingredients, for example vitamin C, retinoids or plant extracts, which stay stable for longer in dark glass.
- Facial and hair oils – blends of vegetable oils for the face, beard, cuticles or hair ends, where a few drops are enough for one use.
- Diluted blends with essential oils – massage or aromatherapy body oils where the dose is counted in drops.
- Tinctures and extracts – alcohol or glycerine extracts dispensed in small amounts into other preparations.
Good to know
Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle, dropper insert and cap, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the dropper insert would get into anhydrous contents. In oils and serums without a preservative, this shortens their usable life.
Fill the contents once they have cooled to room temperature. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature differences well, and hot contents poured into a cold bottle can damage the material. Serums prepared hot should therefore be left to cool first and filled afterwards.
The dropper insert is made of polypropylene and comes into contact with the contents each time they are dispensed. For undiluted essential oils, tinctures with a high alcohol content or preparations with solvents, we recommend checking in advance whether the plastic withstands the particular formulation over the long term and whether it affects its fragrance or appearance.
After thorough washing and disinfection, the glass bottle can be reused. With repeated use, check that the dropper insert and cap still sit firmly in the neck and that the thread still seals. Plastic parts wear out faster than glass.
The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish. You can find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of packaging and closure in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your particular formulation.
When you finish using it, the glass bottle goes into glass recycling and the plastic dropper insert with the cap goes into plastics. The parts are therefore sorted separately.
