Product description

The blue glass bottle with inner dropper is designed for dispensing small volumes drop by drop: serums, oil blends or tinctures. The set includes a blue glass pharmaceutical bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml, a long plastic inner dropper and a black plastic cap, so once filled it can be closed and used straight away. Blue glass filters light, which makes it suitable for contents that are harmed by light. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What is in the set

  • Glass pharmaceutical bottle, blue, 30 ml – the body of the packaging with a threaded neck. Glass does not react with oils or alcohol and can be washed and used repeatedly.
  • Plastic inner dropper, long – a clear PP insert that is pushed into the neck and slows the flow of the contents to individual drops.
  • Plastic cap, black – a PE cap that screws onto the neck over the inner dropper and closes the bottle.

How it dispenses and seals

Fill the bottle, press the inner dropper into the neck and screw on the cap. To use it, simply unscrew the cap and tilt the bottle. The contents flow out drop by drop, so small doses of serum or oil blend are easy to measure straight onto your palm or into a dish. When filling the bottle yourself, we recommend checking how quickly your particular formulation drips. Thin water-based solutions flow faster than thicker oils or gel serums. With very viscous contents, dripping slows down. Test the tightness of the set with your finished product: lay the filled bottle on its side on a piece of paper and watch for any leakage.

What it is suitable for

The 30 ml volume corresponds to a common pack size for a facial serum, an oil-based face elixir, cuticle oil or a diluted blend of essential oils for massage. It also works well for tinctures and alcohol extracts that are dispensed drop by drop. Blue glass is an advantage for oils prone to oxidation and for light-sensitive active ingredients. It can also be used for water-based toners. However, dispensing them drop by drop is less convenient than with a sprayer, and the water-based contents must be properly preserved.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the inner dropper, which takes up part of the space once pushed into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you overfill the bottle, the contents will overflow when the inner dropper is inserted.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the inner dropper and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in a cosmetic product promotes the growth of microorganisms.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Let a hot oil phase or a freshly boiled extract cool down before filling, otherwise the glass may crack. The inner dropper and the cap are made of plastic. With concentrated essential oils, solvents and strongly alcoholic contents, we recommend checking whether the plastic softens or discolours after prolonged contact. Diluted blends in a carrier oil are usually unproblematic.

The set is intended for cosmetics. With your own recipe, always check how the packaging behaves with your particular formulation, especially the tightness of the cap and the durability of the inner dropper during longer storage of the contents.

The bottle can be reused after washing. The inner dropper and the cap are suitable for reuse, provided they are not deformed or saturated with the odour of the previous contents. The pharmaceutical bottle alone can also be combined with other closures with the same thread type, and you can find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. When recycling, separate the glass and the plastic parts.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle with inner dropper protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass filters the light passing through it and so slows the degradation of sensitive oils and active ingredients. The protection is not complete, so do not leave the bottle in direct sunlight for long periods. For products with vitamins, unrefined oils or essential oils, blue glass is more suitable than clear glass.
How much fits into the 30 ml glass bottle with inner dropper?
Fill it to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the inner dropper, which takes up part of the space once pushed into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents will overflow when the inner dropper is inserted.
Is the glass bottle with inner dropper suitable for essential oils?
The glass pharmaceutical bottle itself tolerates essential oils without problems. The inner dropper and the cap are made of plastic, so the set is recommended mainly for diluted blends in a carrier oil. With concentrated essential oils, check whether the plastic parts soften or change colour after prolonged contact.
Can the blue bottle with inner dropper be washed and used again?
Yes, wash the glass pharmaceutical bottle, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and, once it has dried, you can fill it again. The plastic inner dropper and the cap can be reused if they are not damaged and do not retain the odour of the previous contents. For cosmetics intended for sale, it is safer to use a new inner dropper.
Is the glass bottle with inner dropper suitable for water-based products, such as toners?
Yes, glass tolerates water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based contents. With water-based products, bear in mind that the inner dropper dispenses drop by drop and thin solutions flow from it faster than oils. Water-based contents must always be preserved and the packaging disinfected before filling, otherwise microbial spoilage may occur.
