Product description

This is a complete set for dispensing liquid preparations drop by drop: a brown glass bottle in the shape of a dropper vial with a nominal volume of 15 ml, a fitted plastic dropper insert and a black screw cap. Brown glass reduces light transmission, making the set particularly suitable for contents sensitive to light and oxidation – essential oil blends, oil and facial serums, concentrated active ingredients, tinctures or beard oils. The small volume is practical for samples, test batches and preparations that are used drop by drop and consumed before they lose efficacy.

All three components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics; declarations of conformity are listed with the individual components.

Why choose this set

  • Light protection – brown glass slows down the degradation of light-sensitive ingredients, such as essential oils, unsaturated vegetable oils and vitamins in serums.
  • Precise dosing – the dropper insert fitted into the neck releases the contents drop by drop, so a few drops of serum or oil blend can be measured out without pouring and measuring tools.
  • Hygienic use – the contents do not come into contact with fingers during dispensing, and are exposed to air less than with an open neck, which reduces the risk of contamination of leave-on preparations.
  • Odour-neutral glass – glass neither absorbs nor releases fragrances, making it suitable for perfume compositions and essential oils, where a plastic bottle could absorb the scent or soften over time.
  • Black cap – contrasts with the brown glass and gives the bottle a clean, uniform appearance suitable for selling finished products.

Nominal and total volume

With each container we distinguish two volumes. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for when filled normally, and this is the figure stated in the name. The total volume to the brim is the physical space up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve – space for the fitted dropper insert, for the air gap above the liquid and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A vial filled to the brim would overflow when the dropper insert is pushed in and the dropper insert would not seat properly.

When filling, leave free space above the liquid corresponding to the length of the dropper insert. Press the dropper insert into the neck until it seats fully, then screw on the cap. The cap does not push the dropper insert in – it must be fully seated before closing.

How to work with the set

The dropper insert is a long insert that slides into the bottle neck and is held in place by friction. When dispensing, the bottle is tilted or turned neck-down and the contents flow out drop by drop through a small opening. The drip rate depends on the viscosity of the fill. The cap screws onto the neck over the dropper insert and ensures a seal during storage and transport.

The set is primarily suited for liquid and low-viscosity preparations:

  • blends of essential oils and fragrance oils, or their dilutions in a carrier oil;
  • oil serums for the face, beard, nails and cuticles;
  • water-based and water-glycerin serums with low viscosity;
  • alcohol-based and glycerin-based tinctures and extracts;
  • samples of perfume compositions and concentrates.

For thick serums, gels with a higher proportion of thickeners or emulsions, the dropper insert is not suitable. The contents either do not flow through the small opening, or drip so slowly that dispensing becomes impractical. For such textures, a jar or bottle with a different type of closure from the range is more suitable.

Both the dropper insert and the cap are made of plastic. Undiluted essential oils, especially citrus ones, and some solvents may soften or discolour plastic parts on prolonged contact. With concentrated essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures, we recommend testing the behaviour of the dropper insert on one bottle before filling the entire batch.

Good to know

Preparation before first use. Wash the bottle with warm water before use, or disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Treat the dropper insert and cap in the same way; do not boil or dry plastic parts with hot air. Fill into a dry container only after the disinfectant has evaporated completely.

Filling temperature. Glass can handle warm contents, but does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Do not pour a hot phase into a cold bottle and do not place a filled vial directly into the cold. Oil-based and alcohol-based preparations are best filled at room temperature.

Reuse. The glass bottle can be reused after thorough washing and drying. The dropper insert can be carefully levered out, but when refitting it check that it holds firmly in the neck and does not leak. For products intended for sale, it is more hygienic to use a new dropper insert for each filling.

Labelling. The cylindrical surface of the bottle is small at this volume, so the label must be narrow and well-adhering. Apply the label to clean, dry and degreased glass.

Other closures. The bottle has a standard neck size stated in the specifications; further closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations are available from Handymade. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing and container behaviour with the specific formulation.

Intended use and recycling. The set is intended for cosmetic preparations and is not declared for contact with food. At the end of its life, the glass goes into glass waste and the plastic parts, once removed, into plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 15 ml brown glass dropper vial protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass reduces light transmission and thereby slows down the degradation of light-sensitive ingredients such as essential oils, unsaturated vegetable oils and vitamins in serums. However, it is not complete protection. With prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, the contents warm up and change even in brown glass. Store the bottle in the shade and at room temperature.
How much can actually be filled into the dropper vial?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 15 ml, not to the brim. The space between the nominal and total volume is taken up by the fitted dropper insert and an air reserve that prevents overflow when the dropper insert is pushed in and when the contents expand with heat. If you fill the vial to the neck, the dropper insert will not seat properly and the contents will overflow.
Is the glass dropper vial also suitable for thick serums?
No, the dropper insert is designed for thin liquids – oils, alcohol-based tinctures and water-based serums without significant thickening. Thick serums, gels and emulsions either do not flow through the small dropper opening or drip very slowly. For such textures, a jar or bottle with a different type of closure is more suitable.
Can I fill the glass dropper vial with essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures?
Yes, glass is suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based preparations and does not absorb their scent. However, the dropper insert and cap are plastic, so with undiluted essential oils, especially citrus ones, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic parts on one bottle. Diluted blends in a carrier oil and common tinctures are less demanding in this respect.
How to prepare the dropper vial before first use, and can it be reused?
Before first use, wash the bottle, dropper insert and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely; do not boil the plastic parts. The glass bottle can be reused after thorough washing. The dropper insert can be removed, but when refitting it check that it holds firmly in the neck, or replace it with a new one.
