Product description

A brown glass dropper bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a black-gold dropper is a ready-to-use set for facial serums, facial oils, essential oil blends and tinctures — products that are dispensed by the drop. Brown glass reduces light transmission and protects the contents, which quickly lose efficacy when exposed to light. The dropper dispenses precisely, with minimal contact between the contents and air or fingers, which you will appreciate with concentrated products applied in small amounts.

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle itself also holds a certification for direct food contact, but the dropper does not, so the complete set with dropper is intended for cosmetics only.

Why choose this set

  • Light protection – brown glass absorbs most UV radiation and part of the visible light spectrum, slowing the yellowing of oils, fading of coloured components and degradation of light-sensitive active ingredients.
  • Drop-by-drop dispensing – the silicone bulb draws the contents into the glass tube and releases them drop by drop, so the customer uses exactly as much as needed.
  • Non-reactive glass – glass does not absorb fragrances or dyes and is resistant to oils, alcohol and essential oils, making it suitable for more demanding formulations.
  • Tall, slender shape – the bottle takes up less shelf space, fits comfortably in the hand and offers an elongated surface for a label.
  • Coordinated appearance – the combination of brown glass with a black and gold dropper looks understated and suits facial serums and oils in the higher price range.

Which products is it suitable for

The set is designed for thin to medium-viscosity liquids that can be drawn into the dropper: aqueous and oil-based serums, face and beard oils, hair tip or cuticle oils, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, aromatherapy blends, tinctures and herbal extracts for cosmetic use.

It is not suitable for thick gels, creams or products with solid particles, such as scrubs. Such contents will not draw into the tube or will clog it; for these formulations a pump or jar is more appropriate.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the container is designed at standard filling, and it is this figure by which the container is labelled. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the headspace: part of the space is taken up by the glass tube of the dropper, which pushes the contents upward when screwed in, and part is left for the expansion of the contents with temperature change. Both values can be found in the specifications.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill the bottle right up to the neck, the dropper tube will push some of the contents out when screwed in and the thread will be left contaminated, which reduces the seal.

Working with the dropper

The tube length matches the height of the tall bottle, so the dropper reaches almost to the bottom and dispenses reliably even at low levels. Squeezing the bulb forces out the air; after immersion and release the tube fills and the contents are released drop by drop with gentle pressure. Drop size depends on the viscosity and surface tension of the contents — aqueous and oil-based formulations drip differently. We therefore recommend verifying the number of drops per millilitre with your own formulation if you intend to state it in the instructions.

The dropper seals on the bottle neck thread. Before shipping finished products, we recommend checking that it is tightened and verifying the seal in a horizontal position with the specific formulation, especially for thin oils and alcohol-based blends. The silicone bulb withstands common cosmetic ingredients; with high-concentration essential oil blends or solvents, a long-term test is recommended to check whether it softens or changes colour.

After dispensing, push the remaining contents back from the tube into the bottle. The contents should not remain drawn up in contact with the bulb for extended periods; with oils this also prevents residue from drying in the tube.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Rinse the dropper with clean water or alcohol and also allow to dry; residual moisture would get into an anhydrous product.
  • Glass and heat – do not pour a hot phase into a cold bottle; a sudden temperature change can damage the glass. Allow the mixture to cool to at least a lukewarm temperature.
  • Reuse – the glass can be reused, and so can the dropper after thorough washing and drying. Dried oil residue in the tube is harder to clean, so wash the dropper immediately after emptying.
  • Labelling – the elongated cylindrical surface accommodates both a vertical and a wrap-around label. Apply to dry, degreased glass.
  • Other closures – the bottle has a standard neck with the thread size stated in the specifications. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range; with your own combination we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Sorting – brown glass belongs in glass waste. The dropper combines glass, plastic, silicone and metal, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown glass dropper bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass absorbs most UV radiation and part of the visible light spectrum, slowing the oxidation of oils and the degradation of light-sensitive active ingredients. It is not, however, a substitute for proper storage: it does not protect against heat or air, so keep the product out of direct sunlight and close it well after use.
How much does the 50 ml dropper bottle actually hold?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml. The physical volume to the brim is larger, but this difference serves as headspace for the dropper tube, which pushes the contents upward when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature change. If filled to the brim, the contents would overflow through the neck and contaminate the thread.
Is the dropper suitable for thick serums or creams?
No, the dropper is designed for thin to medium-viscosity liquids such as oils, aqueous serums or tinctures. Thick gels and creams will not draw into the glass tube or will clog it, and dispensing will not work. For thicker formulations, choose a container with a pump or a jar.
Can the bottle with the black-gold dropper be used for essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures?
Yes, brown glass is resistant to essential oils and alcohol and at the same time protects them from light. With high-concentration essential oil blends or solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the silicone bulb with a long-term test, as concentrated components may soften the silicone over time. Verify the seal in a horizontal position with the specific formulation.
Is this set suitable for food use, for example home-made oils?
No, the set with dropper is not declared for food contact. The food-contact certification applies to the glass bottle on its own; the dropper does not hold it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. For food use, choose a bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certification.
How to prepare the dropper bottle before first filling and can it be reused?
Before first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Rinse the dropper and also allow to dry. The glass can be reused, and so can the dropper after thorough washing; dried oil residue in the tube is harder to clean. Wash the set immediately after emptying.
