Product description

Glass bottle, tall, black sprayer, smoke cap, 50 ml is a ready-made combination of container and closure for cosmetic products applied as a fine mist. The bottle is made of amber glass, which filters light transmission and helps protect light-sensitive contents such as hydrolats, essential oils in alcohol solutions or aqueous solutions of active substances. The sprayer with a black body and smoke cap is already screwed on, so the set simply needs to be filled and used. The slim, tall shape with a nominal volume of 50 ml fits comfortably in the hand, fits in a handbag and is suitable for facial mists, tonics, hair sprays, air fresheners or eau de parfum.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and both components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The food-contact certificate applies only to the glass bottle on its own.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial mists and tonics – aqueous and hydrolat products with low viscosity pass through the sprayer without problems and the amber glass protects sensitive ingredients from light.
  • Hair and body sprays – light solutions with glycerin, aloe, hydrolats or solubilised oils applied over a surface.
  • Fragrance and alcohol-based products – glass is resistant to ethanol, so the set is suitable for eau de parfum, eau de cologne, fabric fresheners and hand sprays containing alcohol.
  • Samples and travel packaging – the 50 ml volume is practical for testing a new formulation or packaging samples for customers.

How to work with the set

The sprayer dispenses approximately 0.12 ml per pump, which means a full container provides approximately 400 doses. The mist is fine and even with contents of near-water viscosity. The thicker the product, the worse it sprays. Dilute solutions and hydrolats work well, light milk-type emulsions come out more as drops than mist, and thick serums, gels or straight plant oils are beyond what the sprayer can handle. With your own formulation, we recommend testing its behaviour on a small quantity first.

The sprayer has a dip tube that reaches to the bottom of the bottle. If it touches the bottom and bends after screwing on, it can be trimmed slightly with a sharp knife so that it ends just above the bottom. This allows the last residue of the contents to be dispensed.

Fill the bottle to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the brim is larger and that difference serves as a reserve for the dip tube, the sprayer mechanism and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. An overfilled container may overflow after screwing on and may not seal properly.

What is worth knowing

The container is suitable for repeated use. Before the first fill and with each change of contents, the bottle is washed and disinfected and the sprayer is rinsed to remove any residue of the previous product from the tube. The exact procedure is in the questions below.

Glass does not let air or fragrance through and does not react with essential oils or alcohol. The sprayer is made of polypropylene. Aqueous and alcoholic contents do not damage it; at high concentrations of essential oils or other solvents, we recommend checking the seal and mechanism performance with the specific formulation. Contents with solid particles, such as undissolved powders or exfoliating ingredients, may clog the nozzle.

The bottle has a smooth cylindrical body to which a label adheres well. The smoke cap protects the nozzle from dirt and accidental activation in a bag. At end of life, the glass goes to the glass recycling stream and the sprayer to plastics.

Aqueous and hydrolat contents without preservation spoil in the sprayer just as they would in any other container. The sprayer does reduce contact between the contents and fingers, but it is not a substitute for a preservative.

Frequently asked questions

Is the glass bottle with sprayer set suitable for food use?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for direct contact with food. The food-contact certificate applies only to the glass bottle on its own. The plastic sprayer does not carry this declaration, so the full combination is intended for cosmetics, for example tonics, mists and alcohol-based sprays. Suitability for contact with cosmetics is declared for both components.
Does the amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass significantly reduces light transmission, especially in the UV range. This slows the oxidation and degradation of sensitive ingredients such as essential oils, vitamins or certain plant extracts. It does not guarantee complete protection, so it is advisable to store a filled container out of direct sunlight and at normal room temperature.
Can oil be sprayed using the sprayer on the 50 ml glass bottle?
Only a very thin oil or an oil solubilised in an aqueous base. Pure vegetable oil is too thick for this type of sprayer — it comes out in drops or the mechanism jams. For oil-based products a dropper bottle or a pump dispenser is more suitable. Aqueous solutions, hydrolats, tonics and alcohol-based products are appropriate for a fine mist.
Why does the 50 ml bottle hold more than 50 ml?
Because the nominal volume is the volume intended for normal filling, not the physical volume to the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the sprayer tube, the closure mechanism and for expansion of the contents when temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume so that the container does not overflow after screwing on and seals properly.
Is the glass bottle with sprayer suitable for perfume or an alcohol-based spray?
Yes, glass is resistant to ethanol and does not alter the scent of the contents, so the set is suitable for eau de parfum, eau de cologne and alcohol-based hand sprays. Polypropylene sprayers generally tolerate alcoholic solutions. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking the seal after a few days of storage.
How to clean the glass bottle and sprayer before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning agent, rinse, disinfect with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave to dry upside down. Rinse the sprayer by submerging the tube in clean water or ethanol and spraying several times, then leave to drip dry. Residue of the old product in the tube would otherwise contaminate the new fill.
