Product description
A glass roll-on for your own fragrance oils, massage blends and spot applications, supplied as a ready-made set: an amber glass medicine bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml, a metal roller ball and a black plastic cap with an 18/410 neck finish. Amber glass filters out light, which does not benefit essential oils, vegetable oils or fragrance compositions. The ball spreads the contents directly onto the skin without touching them with your fingers and without dripping.
The taller, slim shape of the bottle sits well in the hand and fits into a handbag or cosmetic bag. A volume of 50 ml is larger than usual for a roll-on, so the set is better suited to massage and body oils than to concentrated perfumes.
What it is suitable for
- Fragrance oils and body scents – an oil base with a fragrance composition or a blend of essential oils, applied to the wrists, neck and décolletage.
- Massage and body oils – the ball spreads the oil over a smaller area without you having to pour it into your palm.
- Essential oil blends in a carrier oil – spot application to the temples, nape of the neck or soles of the feet, where targeted application is more convenient than from a dropper.
- Facial and nail oils – cuticles or dry areas, where a small amount straight from the ball is enough.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. Only the glass medicine bottle has a separate certificate for direct food contact. The cap and the ball do not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
How to fill and assemble it
Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume of 50 ml, then press the ball into the neck as far as it will go and screw on the cap. Before assembling, wipe the neck dry so that residual oil does not prevent the ball and the cap from seating tightly.
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the ball, which takes up part of the neck once inserted, and for the contents to expand when the temperature changes. A bottle filled to the brim will overflow when the ball is inserted.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the ball and the cap with alcohol before use.
Good to know
A roll-on works best with liquid to slightly viscous oil-based contents. Thick gels or blends containing waxes and butters are difficult to spread with the ball and may block it. With very thin, watery contents, on the other hand, more liquid than desired may leak out when the bottle is moved vigorously. Before filling a larger batch, test one piece and check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
The ball is steel in a plastic holder. When applying, hold the set at a slight angle so that the contents flow smoothly towards the ball.
Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature. Leave blends made with melted ingredients to cool before filling, and do not fill the bottle with a hot blend.
The plastic cap and the ball holder are made of polypropylene. For contents with a high proportion of solvents or pure essential oils, we recommend checking compatibility with the plastic parts beforehand.
The 18/410 neck finish is the same as on other medicine bottles in the Handymade range. Other closures with this neck finish can also be used with the bottle alone, and you will find ready-made combinations in our range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and behaviour of the closure with your specific contents.
The set is reusable. Once the contents are used up, simply pry the ball out of the neck, wash all the parts in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse them with alcohol and leave them to dry.
When sorting waste, the glass medicine bottle goes with glass and the cap with plastics. Separate the ball, which combines plastic with steel, from the glass before sorting.
