Product description

A glass medicine bottle, tall, with a black child-resistant cap and dropper is a complete set for drop-by-drop dispensing of oil-based and alcohol-based preparations in a volume of 50 ml. Brown glass protects the contents from light, the short plastic dropper insert in the neck dispenses the contents drop by drop, and the child-resistant cap makes opening difficult for young children. The set is therefore suitable for concentrated contents that are used in small amounts and should remain out of reach of children.

It is suitable for essential oils and their blends, fragrance compositions, facial and hair oils, oil serums, and alcohol-based extracts. The taller and narrower shape of the bottle sits well in the hand, stays stable during dispensing, and takes up little space on a shelf.

What the set is suitable for

  • Essential oils and fragrance blends – the dropper dispenses precisely drop by drop, and brown glass slows changes in fragrance caused by light exposure. The child-resistant cap is appropriate for contents that should be kept out of reach of children.
  • Facial and hair oils – the 50 ml volume corresponds to a standard packaging of oil serum or a blend of vegetable oils for several weeks of use. Drop-by-drop dispensing is precise and spill-free.
  • Alcohol-based extracts and tinctures for cosmetic use – glass is stable towards alcohol and the dropper dispenses even thin liquids without streaming.
  • Samples and test batches – the smaller volume is practical for testing a formulation or for gift and travel packaging.

How the set works

The bottle is filled with the contents, the short dropper is pressed into the neck, and the set is closed with the cap. The dropper sits tightly in the neck and only releases the contents when the bottle is tilted. Dispensing can be done into the palm, onto a cotton pad, or directly into a mixture being prepared. The rate of dripping depends on the viscosity of the contents: thin essential oils and alcohol solutions drip quickly, thicker vegetable oils more slowly.

The child-resistant cap cannot be opened by simply turning it. While turning, it must be pressed down simultaneously, which young children are generally unable to do, but for an adult it is a simple movement. This type of closure is particularly relevant for essential oils and fragrance blends, where classification under chemical substance regulations may require child-resistant closures. Whether this obligation applies to a specific product needs to be verified based on its composition.

Before first closing, check that the dropper is pressed in all the way and that the cap clicks into the locked position when tightened. Only then is the set leak-tight and the safety lock functional.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling conditions. The total volume to the rim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them creates a reserve for the dropper, which is pressed into the neck and displaces some of the contents, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. The exact values of both volumes are listed in the product parameters.

Good to know

Before first use, we recommend washing the bottle, rinsing it with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and allowing it to dry completely. The dropper and cap only need to be rinsed and dried. Glass tolerates repeated use well. The plastic dropper should be replaced with a new one after prolonged use, especially if residue from the previous contents has settled in it.

The dropper and cap are made of plastic. The glass itself is resistant to essential oils and alcohol. For plastic parts, we recommend checking with concentrated essential oils and solvents whether they change shape, become sticky, or allow fragrance to pass through after prolonged contact. For a finished product intended for sale, it is advisable to conduct a leak test and test the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Contact with cosmetics and food. The complete set is declared as suitable for use with cosmetic products. The glass bottle alone has a certificate for direct food contact; the dropper and cap do not. The set is therefore intended for cosmetics, not for filling food products.

Labelling. The tall cylindrical shape provides sufficient surface for a label with mandatory information as well as graphics. For alcohol-based and oil-based contents, we recommend a label with a strong adhesive so that it does not come loose after accidental spillage.

Other closures. Other closures with the same neck type, as stated in the parameters, and further ready-made packaging and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For a custom combination, we recommend verifying the leak-tightness and dispensing performance with the specific contents.

Recycling. The glass bottle goes into glass waste after emptying; the plastic dropper and cap go into plastics. It is advisable to separate the parts before disposal.

The child-resistant cap reduces the risk of a child opening it, but does not replace safe storage. Store bottles containing essential oils and concentrates out of reach of children regardless of the type of closure.

Frequently asked questions

How do you open the child-resistant cap on the 50 ml glass bottle?
The cap is opened by pressing down and turning at the same time. Turning alone without pressing just spins the cap without unscrewing it, which is the principle of the child-resistant lock. When closing, simply tighten the cap until it clicks into the locked position. Before handing the product to a customer, it is advisable to check the lock function on each bottle.
Is the brown glass bottle with dropper suitable for essential oils?
Yes, a brown glass bottle with a dropper is a common way of packaging essential oils. Dark glass slows changes in fragrance and composition caused by light exposure, and the dropper dispenses the oil drop by drop. The dropper and cap are made of plastic, so we recommend checking with concentrated oils whether they change shape or become sticky after prolonged contact.
Can the glass bottle and dropper set be used for food?
No, the complete set is not intended for filling food products. The food-contact certificate applies to the glass bottle on its own; the plastic dropper and child-resistant cap do not carry this certificate. The complete set is declared as suitable for cosmetic products, such as essential oils, facial oils, oil serums, or alcohol-based extracts for cosmetic use.
How much should be poured into the 50 ml bottle?
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, i.e. 50 ml, not to the rim. The difference between the nominal and total volume creates a reserve for the dropper, which is pressed into the neck and displaces some of the contents, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents may overflow when the dropper is inserted.
Is the dropper also suitable for thicker oils and serums?
The dropper also dispenses thicker vegetable oils, but the dripping is slower than with thin essential oils or alcohol solutions. Very thick or gel-based preparations flow poorly through a dropper and a different type of closure is more suitable for them. For a new formulation, we recommend testing the dripping rate with the first filled bottle.
Can the glass dropper bottle be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle is suitable for repeated use after washing, rinsing with alcohol and allowing it to dry completely. We recommend replacing the plastic dropper after prolonged use, as residue from previous contents may remain in it and the fragrance can transfer to the new filling. The child-resistant cap only needs rinsing and checking that the lock still functions.
