Product description

A tall dropper bottle in amber glass with a black glass dropper is a complete set for contents that are dispensed drop by drop and are sensitive to light. Amber glass reduces light transmission, making it suitable for oil serums, blends of vegetable oils with essential oils, tinctures, alcohol extracts and concentrated active ingredients. The dropper allows precise measuring without pouring, which is appreciated with serums and with ingredients used in small quantities.

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle itself additionally holds a certificate for direct food contact, but the dropper does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetic use. The dropper bottle is the name of the shape — a bottle with a narrower neck — not a description of its purpose.

How the set works in practice

The dropper consists of a black plastic screw cap, a flexible silicone bulb and a glass tube. The tube is long, adapted to the tall shape of the bottle, so it reaches close to the bottom and contents can be drawn even at a low fill level. Squeezing and releasing the bulb fills the tube. A further squeeze over the palm or directly on the skin releases the contents drop by drop.

The set is assembled so that the bottle neck and the dropper thread are matched to each other. When using your own combinations with other closures from the Handymade range with the same neck type (stated in the specifications), we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the closure with a specific formulation.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The total volume of the bottle up to the neck is greater than the nominal volume. The difference is a reserve for the dropper tube, which when screwed in displaces some of the contents upward, and for the expansion of contents with changes in temperature. An overfilled bottle will overflow when closed.

Suitable for products such as

Oil serums for face and hair – the dropper doses precisely and amber glass protects unsaturated oils from light.
Blends of essential oils in a carrier oil – for example massage or aromatherapy blends where a few drops are dispensed at a time.
Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with alcohol and dark glass slows the fading of coloured extracts.
Concentrated active ingredients – vitamin solutions, plant concentrates or raw material samples that are added to a formulation in small amounts.
Nail, beard or scalp oil – the dropper allows direct application to the target area.

For water-based tonics or thin hydrolats that are applied to a larger area, a spray bottle is more practical. The dropper is intended for contents that are used drop by drop.

What to know before filling

Before first use, wash and disinfect both the bottle and the dropper with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the dropper tube could spoil an anhydrous oil-based content. The same applies when reusing. Glass withstands thorough washing; the bulb only needs to be rinsed and left to dry — do not submerge it in solvents for extended periods.

For preparations with a high proportion of pure essential oils or with more aggressive solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the bulb in advance. The glass tube and bottle are resistant to these, but flexible materials may soften or swell with prolonged contact. With standard oil serums and blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, this is generally not an issue.

Glass is sensitive to sudden temperature changes and to drops. Do not pour hot contents into the bottle immediately after heating a phase — fill only after cooling. When disposing, separate the dropper from the bottle; the bottle goes into glass recycling.

When filling a series of products, fill the bottles using a funnel or pump dispenser and attach the droppers only at the end. When filling through the dropper itself, contents enter the bulb and with oils this is difficult to clean.
