Product description

An amber plastic bottle with a volume of 200 ml and a matte black screw cap makes a ready-to-use set for liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed by pouring. The amber colour of the wall dampens light and helps protect light-sensitive contents, especially vegetable oils, hydrosols and products containing essential oils or plant extracts. PET is light and unbreakable, so the bottle holds up in the bathroom, while travelling and when shipped to customers.

Both the bottle and the cap have a 24/410 neck finish, so the set is used just as it is supplied: fill, screw on, label. Both components are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. The matte black cap on the amber bottle gives the set a uniform look without the need for further packaging.

What it is suitable for

  • Toners, facial waters and hydrosols – water-based products applied to a cotton pad or into the palm. Hydrosols count as light-sensitive contents, so they benefit from the amber wall.
  • Body and massage oils – vegetable oils are prone to oxidation, which light speeds up. Dark packaging slows it down.
  • Cleansing and shower oils – they are poured straight into the palm, and a screw cap is all they need.
  • Shampoos, conditioners and shower gels – rinse-off products dispensed by pouring. With thicker textures, expect slower flow out of the neck.
  • Smaller batches and samples – when selling or handing out products to try, unbreakable packaging is safer to transport than glass.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 200 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference provides headroom for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you later add a pump or a dropper to the set, the same headroom accommodates the part of the closure that extends into the bottle.

Fill thicker products using a funnel or from a dispensing bottle so that the product does not get onto the thread. Residues on the thread make the cap seat less well and may leak during transport.

Preparation and reuse

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap in warm water with an ordinary cleaning product, rinse thoroughly, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely upside down. Residual water in the packaging dilutes the preservative system of water-based products.

The set withstands repeated filling, and the same procedure is enough between refills. Check the cap each time you use it. If the thread has stretched or the cap does not seat evenly, replace it with a new one with the same thread.

PET does not tolerate hot water or filling with a hot product, as the wall may deform. Let emulsions, gels and infusions cool before filling, and do not wash the bottle in a dishwasher.

Good to know

Amber PET and amber glass do the same job of protecting the contents from light. Plastic is much lighter and does not break if dropped in the shower or during delivery. Glass, on the other hand, tolerates heat and concentrated essential oils better, and it is often the more suitable choice for anhydrous products with a high proportion of essential oils.

Compatibility with the contents depends on the composition of the product. Pure essential oils, fragrance compositions in higher concentrations, products with a high proportion of alcohol, or solvents may damage, soften or cloud the plastic over time. For such formulations, we recommend testing compatibility on one bottle over several weeks before filling the whole batch. Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals.

The set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the bottle nor the cap carries a declaration for food contact, so do not use it for cooking oils, syrups or herbal infusions.

Closures with the same 24/410 neck finish and other ready-made packaging and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP. Once empty and rinsed, both components belong in sorted plastic waste, and you should separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 200 ml amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the wall lets through less light than clear plastic, so it slows the effect of light on oils, hydrosols and products containing essential oils. It does not, however, replace full protection from light. Store contents that react strongly to light away from direct sunlight and in the dark as well.
How much does the 200 ml bottle actually hold?
The bottle is designed for a nominal volume of 200 ml, although its total brimful volume is larger. The difference is headroom for the cap, any other closure and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume. A bottle filled to the neck overflows when the cap is screwed on and may leak when warmed.
Can the amber PET bottle be reused, and how do I clean it?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap can be reused. Wash them in warm water with a cleaning product, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely upside down. Avoid hot water and the dishwasher, as PET deforms with heat. For the same reason, fill only with a product that has cooled. Before the next filling, check the thread and how the cap seats.
Is the PET bottle suitable for oils and products containing essential oils?
Yes, for vegetable and massage oils with a usual proportion of essential oils. Pure essential oils, fragrance compositions in higher concentrations and products with a high proportion of alcohol may damage or cloud the plastic over time. For such compositions, test compatibility on one bottle for several weeks before filling the whole batch.
Which closures fit the amber bottle with a 24/410 neck finish?
All closures with a 24/410 neck finish fit the bottle, that is, the same neck finish as the supplied matte black cap. This includes pumps, sprayers and droppers with this neck finish. When changing the closure, we recommend checking the tightness and the dispensing with your product, as the behaviour varies with the viscosity of the contents.
