Product description

An amber plastic bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a matte black cap makes a ready-to-fill set for liquid and low-viscosity cosmetics. Amber-coloured PET lets through less light than clear plastic, so it is used mainly for vegetable oils, hydrosols and products with ingredients that are harmed by light. The bottle is lightweight and does not break when dropped, which suits the bathroom, travel and sending samples to customers.

The PP cap with a 24/410 neck finish is screwed onto the neck by hand, and once it is unscrewed, the contents are poured straight from the bottle. The matte black finish matches the amber body of the bottle, so the set works as retail packaging without any further accessories. Both components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The set is not declared for contact with food.

What the set is suitable for

  • Hydrosols and facial toners – poured onto a cotton pad or into the palm, while the darker packaging protects the fragrant ingredients from light.
  • Face, body and massage oils – light harms vegetable oils, so they are best filled into amber or dark packaging.
  • Cleansing oils and micellar waters – thin textures that are easy to pour in small amounts from a 24/410 neck.
  • Shampoos and shower gels in travel size – a volume of 100 ml lasts several weeks of use and the bottle does not break when dropped.
  • Trial batches and samples – when fine-tuning a recipe, a small volume is used up before any changes in fragrance or colour have time to show.

Thicker creams and balms are hard to dispense from a bottle with a plain cap. A jar or a bottle with a pump is more suitable for them.

Nominal volume and brimful volume

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume, given in the parameters, is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between the two values leaves room for the closure and for the contents to expand with temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows when closed, and the cap then sits on a soiled thread, which impairs the seal.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual moisture in the packaging is an unnecessary source of contamination of the finished product.

Good to know

  • Temperature of the contents – PET does not tolerate heat, so let emulsions and herbal infusions cool to room temperature before filling. Do not leave a filled bottle in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
  • Essential oils and solvents – the packaging is not designed for aggressive chemicals. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend first testing on a single piece whether the bottle softens, deforms or absorbs the scent.
  • Seal – tighten the cap by hand, without tools. With your own recipe, check the seal on a filled bottle lying on its side, preferably overnight.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck finish and ready-made bottle-plus-closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing and disinfection, the set can be used again. Before the next filling, check the thread of both the bottle and the cap for damage.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET, the cap of PP, and both parts go in the plastics recycling. Before discarding, unscrew the cap and rinse the bottle.

Do not fill the bottle with hot contents. Heat can deform the PET wall and permanently warp the thread, after which the bottle will not seal.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic bottle protect its contents from light?
Yes, amber-coloured PET lets through less light than clear plastic, so the contents are better protected from light. It is suitable for vegetable oils, hydrosols and products with sensitive ingredients. The colour, however, does not replace correct storage. Keep a filled bottle away from direct sun and heat sources.
How much fits into a 100 ml plastic bottle and how far should it be filled?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The physical volume up to the neck is larger, and you will find it in the parameters as the total brimful volume. The difference serves as room for the closure and for the contents to expand with temperature changes. If you fill to the brim, the contents overflow when closing and the cap does not seal as it should.
Can a 24/410 plastic bottle with a cap be reused?
Yes, after washing, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and drying completely, the set can be filled again. Before reuse, check that the thread of both the bottle and the cap is not deformed or cracked. We recommend reusing a bottle that held strongly scented or oily contents for a similar type of product, as the plastic may partly retain the scent.
Is the plastic bottle with a cap suitable for oils, hydrosols and alcohol-based toners?
The set is suitable for vegetable oils and hydrosols, and both components are declared for contact with cosmetics. For alcohol-based toners, contents with a high proportion of essential oils or products with solvents, we recommend testing how the bottle behaves on a single piece first. The packaging is not designed for aggressive chemicals and is not declared for contact with food.
Which other closure fits a plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck finish?
Any closure with the same 24/410 neck finish fits the bottle. You will find ready-made bottle-plus-closure combinations and closures with this neck finish sold separately in the Handymade range. For your own combination, check the seal and whether the closure dispenses the contents as you need.
