Product description

This amber plastic bottle with a capacity of 150 ml and a matte black cap is a ready-to-fill set for liquid and slightly thick cosmetics where protection from light and low packaging weight matter. The amber tint of the PET reduces the light reaching the contents, so the bottle is well suited to packaging vegetable and massage oils, hydrosols, toners or shampoos with essential oils. The plastic does not break when dropped, which is useful in the shower, when travelling and when shipping finished products to customers.

The PP cap with a 24/410 neck finish screws onto the neck, and the contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle. The matte black finish gives the packaging a muted, uniform look. The bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and is not approved for food.

What it is suitable for

  • Vegetable, massage and hair oils – light speeds up the oxidation of oils, amber plastic helps to slow it down, and the lightweight bottle is comfortable to hold even with a hand slippery from oil.
  • Hydrosols and toners – water-based products with a preservative, which are poured onto a cotton pad or into the palm.
  • Shampoos, conditioners and shower gels – 150 ml is a common travel and trial format, and the unbreakable packaging withstands a fall onto a wet floor.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – textures that can still be poured from the bottle.

Thick creams and butters do not belong in a bottle with a narrow neck; jars are better suited to them.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 150 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity listed in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between the two is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will be pushed into the thread when you screw on the cap and the cap will not seat properly.

When filling emulsions and gels, bear in mind that a thicker mass traps air. After filling, tap the bottle on the table several times so that the contents settle and the level shows the actual amount.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the neck or thread would get into the product.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures. Emulsions, gels and liquid soaps are poured into the bottle only once they have cooled. Hot filling may deform the wall or change the shape of the neck so that the cap does not seal.

With a high proportion of essential oils, especially citrus ones, or with formulations containing solvents, we recommend testing how the plastic behaves on a single bottle before you fill the whole batch. Common cosmetic concentrations of fragrance in oils, shampoos and toners usually do not harm the plastic.

The tightness of the set depends on how the cap seats on the neck. Before you ship products to customers or pack them for travel, we recommend laying a filled bottle on its side on a paper towel and checking after a few hours that it does not leak.

After thorough washing and drying, the bottle can be used again; for the cap, it is enough to check that the thread is not damaged. Other closures with the same type of neck, which you will find in the Handymade range together with ready-made combinations, also fit the 24/410 neck. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET and the cap of PP; before disposal, separate them and put them in plastic recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber PET lets less light through to the contents than clear plastic, so it suits oils, hydrosols and products with essential oils or vitamins, which lose quality faster in light. The packaging does not provide complete darkness, so it is still advisable to store finished products out of direct sunlight.
How much can you actually pour into a 150 ml plastic bottle?
The bottle is designed for a nominal volume of 150 ml and is filled up to that level. Physically it holds slightly more up to the brim, and the exact value is given in the product parameters. This difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents in warmth, so it is not used for a larger portion of product.
Can the amber PET bottle with a cap be reused?
Yes, after washing, disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and drying completely, the bottle can be used again. Before the next filling, check that no residue of the previous product has remained in the neck and that the thread of the cap is not damaged. With strongly aromatic oils, the scent may remain in the plastic, in which case it is better to reserve the bottle for the same type of product.
Is the 150 ml plastic bottle suitable for oils with essential oils or alcohol-based toners?
For common cosmetic concentrations, yes: PET is commonly used for scented massage oils and for toners containing alcohol. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, especially citrus ones, or with solvents, we recommend filling one bottle first and checking after a few weeks that the plastic has not softened or changed shape.
Which closures fit a plastic bottle with a 24/410 neck finish?
All closures with a 24/410 neck finish fit the neck of this bottle, so besides the screw cap in this set you can also use other types of closures with the same neck from the Handymade range. For your own combination of bottle and closure, it is advisable to check the tightness and the dispensing with your specific formulation, because the density and foaming of the contents affect how the closure behaves.
