Product description
The 30 ml amber glass pharmaceutical bottle with an inner dropper and a black screw cap is designed for preparations that are dispensed drop by drop: facial and hair oils, oil serums, essential oil blends diluted in a carrier oil, tinctures or thin water-based serums. The contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle, so it suits cases where the exact amount per use matters. Amber glass reduces the penetration of light and helps with contents that are sensitive to light and oxidation.
The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the inner dropper and the cap do not, so the set is intended for cosmetics.
What the set consists of
- 30 ml glass pharmaceutical bottle – the body of the packaging is made of amber glass with an 18 mm neck. The glass is resistant to oils, alcohol and essential oils.
- Inner dropper, long – a clear polypropylene inner dropper that is pressed into the neck of the bottle. When the bottle is tilted, it releases the contents drop by drop and limits the access of air to the contents between uses.
- Black 18/410 cap – a polyethylene screw closure. It is screwed on over the inner dropper and seals the bottle.
What it is suitable for
Dispensing drop by drop makes sense for preparations of which only a few drops are used per treatment. Typical examples are facial oils, oil serums with active ingredients, massage oil blends or tinctures. The 30 ml volume also suits smaller test batches while you are still fine-tuning the recipe.
The inner dropper dispenses thin to medium-flowing contents. Light oils and water-based solutions flow smoothly, while thicker oils drip more slowly. Thick serums with a gel consistency pass through the inner dropper with difficulty or not at all. For such contents, consider a different type of closure.
Before filling a larger batch, fill one bottle and test how quickly the contents flow out through the inner dropper and whether the number of drops per dose suits you. The speed varies with the viscosity of the contents and with the temperature at which the preparation is used.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume of 30 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the top of the neck. The difference between them provides a reserve for the inner dropper, which takes up part of the space in the neck once pressed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Fill up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents will overflow when the inner dropper is pressed in and soil the thread.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, inner dropper and cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the inner dropper gets into an anhydrous preparation and may compromise its stability.
- Filling temperature – fill oils and serums only after they have cooled to room temperature. Hot contents poured into cold glass may crack the bottle through thermal shock, and a warm fill contracts as it cools.
- Plastic and concentrated contents – the inner dropper and the cap are made of plastic. With pure essential oils, concentrated fragrance compositions or contents with a high proportion of alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking that the inner dropper and the cap do not soften or swell over time and that the closure remains tight.
- Reuse – the glass bottle can be used again after washing and disinfection. The inner dropper can be removed from the neck, but its narrow channel is difficult to clean. When changing the contents, we therefore recommend replacing it with a new one.
- Other closures – closures with the same 18/410 neck type and ready-made combinations of a pharmaceutical bottle with a closure can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
- Recycling – once the contents are used up, separate the components: the bottle goes into glass waste, the inner dropper and the cap into plastics.
Amber glass improves protection from light, but it does not replace proper storage of the preparation. Even in this bottle, keep contents prone to oxidation out of direct sunlight and fill them up to the nominal volume so that as little air as possible remains above the surface.
