Product description
This blue glass medicine bottle with a volume of 5 ml, a plastic dropper insert and a white cap is packaging for small quantities of cosmetics that are dispensed drop by drop. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, so it suits contents that are sensitive to light, for example essential oils, fragrance blends, oil serums or tinctures. When the bottle is tilted, the dropper insert fitted in the neck releases the contents one drop at a time, so nothing pours out and it does not get on your hands.
The set is sold as one piece and consists of three components: the bottle, the dropper insert and the cap. The dropper insert and the cap fit the bottle, and when the cap is screwed on it presses the dropper insert into the neck and seals the contents. The small volume makes this medicine bottle suitable packaging for samples, test batches of fragrance blends or travel-size packs of concentrated products.
What the set consists of
- Blue glass medicine bottle, 5 ml – a bottle with a narrowed neck and a thread, of European origin. The glass does not react with common cosmetic raw materials and does not take on the scent of the contents, and the blue colour reduces the penetration of light.
- Plastic dropper insert, short – a clear PP insert that is pushed into the neck. It dispenses thin liquids drop by drop and narrows the opening, so the contents do not pour out all at once if the bottle is accidentally turned over.
- Plastic cap, white, smooth – a screw-on plastic closure (PP, PE) that seals the bottle with the dropper insert. The white colour on blue glass makes it easier to tell several bottles apart.
What it is suitable for
Dropper dispensing and dark glass determine which products this set is suitable for:
- Essential oils and fragrance compositions – they are dispensed drop by drop and most of them are sensitive to light. The volume of 5 ml corresponds to the usual pack size of an individual essential oil or a trial blend for a candle or soap.
- Oil serums for the face, nails or lips – with thin oils the dropper insert dispenses precisely, while thicker oils flow more slowly.
- Alcohol-based tinctures and concentrates – the glass is resistant to alcohol, and the dropper insert measures out a few drops into water or into a finished recipe.
- Samples and mini packs – 5 ml is enough to try out a fragrance or serum, and the packaging looks like a finished product.
The dropper insert is intended for thin to medium-thick liquids. Thick serums with a high proportion of gel or thickened oils flow from it very slowly or stop in the opening. For such formulations, we recommend testing the dispensing on one bottle before you fill the whole series.
Nominal volume and filling
The stated 5 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Physically, more would fit up to the neck, but this space is a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the neck once inserted, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled only up to the nominal volume. If the bottle is overfilled, the dropper insert pushes part of the contents out as it is inserted and the cap then does not close properly.
For manual filling, a small syringe or a 5 ml measuring cup helps. Fill the bottle, push the dropper insert in straight and press it down to the edge of the neck, then screw on the cap. If the dropper insert is not inserted straight, the cap will not tighten and the bottle will not seal.
Good to know
Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving it to dry completely. Moisture remaining in the neck will show up as cloudiness or water droplets at the bottom with oil-based or alcohol-based contents.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. The set is not declared for food contact, so it is not suitable for filling food flavourings, syrups or cooking oils.
The dropper insert and the cap are made of plastic. With concentrated essential oils and strong solvents, we recommend checking before longer storage whether the plastic parts soften, change colour or take on the scent. The glass itself has no problem with these contents.
The bottle can be reused. After it is emptied, the dropper insert is pulled out with a pointed object or a fingernail, and all the parts are washed in warm water with detergent, disinfected and dried. When you change the contents, it is better to replace the dropper insert with a new one, as residues of the previous fragrance are difficult to remove from plastic.
You can find the closures that fit this bottle, as well as other ready-made combinations of a medicine bottle with a closure, in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.
For disposal, the glass is sorted separately, while the dropper insert and the cap go with plastic.
