Product description
Blue glass bottle with a nominal volume of 15 ml, a short dropper insert and a white cap, intended for small packs of liquid preparations that are dispensed drop by drop. Blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it is filled mainly with essential oils, fragrance oil blends, facial oils and oil-based serums, that is, contents that spoil faster in light. The small volume also suits aromatherapy blends for personal use and samples when testing a formulation.
What the set consists of
- Glass medicine bottle – blue bottle with an 18/410 neck finish, nominal volume 15 ml.
- Short dropper insert – clear polypropylene dropper insert that fits into the neck, so the contents come out drop by drop instead of the whole amount pouring out.
- White cap – smooth plastic cap with an 18/410 thread that screws on over the dropper insert and closes the bottle.
All three parts are included in the set. When filling, the dropper insert is removed and put back into the neck after the contents have been poured in.
What it is suitable for
Drop-by-drop dispensing makes sense wherever only a small amount is taken at a time. With essential oils and perfume blends, it makes it possible to count drops into a diffuser, a carrier oil or a soap base. With facial oils and oil-based serums, a few drops are enough for a single use, and the short dropper insert dispenses them without unnecessary pouring. Glass suits alcohol-based perfume blends because neither alcohol nor essential oils affect it.
Drop-by-drop packaging is used less often for water-based toners or hydrosols, because they are dispensed in larger amounts. However, it is still useful there for a sample or a concentrate that is diluted.
Filling and volume
Nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a margin for the dropper insert, which extends into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled up to the nominal volume. If it is filled to the brim, the dropper insert displaces the contents and they overflow when the cap is screwed on.
When filling thicker oils and serums, we recommend testing the dropper insert with the finished formulation first. Thick contents drip more slowly, and for some formulations it is worth considering a different type of closure.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, the dropper insert and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in oil-based contents promotes the growth of microorganisms and shortens the shelf life of the product.
Glass withstands contact with essential oils and alcohol without any change. The dropper insert and the cap are made of polypropylene and polyethylene. With concentrated essential oils, we recommend testing the dropper insert with the specific contents and replacing it with a new one when refilling. Do not pour hot contents into the bottle. Cold glass cracks with a sudden change in temperature, and the plastic dropper insert may deform.
The dropper insert and the cap have a declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products. No such declaration is available for the glass medicine bottle itself, so the set as a whole is not declared for contact with cosmetics or food.
The set is not intended for food. For home-made oils, syrups or infusions, choose packaging that has a food-contact certificate stated in the parameters.
After washing and disinfection, the glass bottle can be reused. The glass goes into separate glass collection and the plastic parts into plastics collection. You can find other closures with the same 18/410 neck finish and ready-made combinations of a bottle with a closure in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation.
