Product description

This blue glass bottle with a volume of 50 ml, a plastic dropper insert in the neck and a white cap is used for filling and dispensing liquid cosmetic products drop by drop. Blue glass limits light exposure, so it is particularly suitable for contents that are harmed by light: facial oils, serums, essential oil blends, herbal tinctures or alcohol extracts for external use. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

The dropper insert fitted in the neck serves as a safeguard. The contents do not pour out even when the bottle is turned upside down, the liquid comes out one drop at a time, and dispensing stays under control even with small amounts. The white smooth cap with an 18/410 neck finish closes the bottle and protects the contents between uses.

What it is good for

  • Oils and oil serums – dispensed drop by drop directly onto the skin or into the palm.
  • Essential oil blends – the small volume and coloured glass suit concentrated fragrance blends.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – the dropper lets you measure an exact dose into water or into a formulation.
  • Samples and test batches – 50 ml is enough for a smaller batch or for a customer sample.

Dispensing and closing

The bottle is filled through the neck with the dropper insert removed. After filling, the dropper insert is pressed back into the neck and the cap is tightened. To dispense, turn the bottle upside down, and the drops flow out by gravity, so there is no need to squeeze anything. Thicker oils, such as castor oil, drip more slowly than light oils or alcohol. Watery contents flow faster, so it is worth dispensing over a dish or over your palm.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the plastic parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck would dilute the contents and shorten the shelf life of anhydrous products.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim is larger and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the neck, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Fill up to the nominal volume. A bottle filled to the brim would overflow when the dropper insert is pushed in.

Good to know

The glass withstands cleaning with hot water and disinfection with alcohol, but it should not be exposed to sudden changes in temperature. The plastic dropper insert and the cap are cleaned with lukewarm water. We do not recommend prolonged soaking in concentrated essential oils or solvents without a prior test. With strongly aromatic contents, it is better to replace the dropper insert and the cap after emptying, because plastic can retain the scent.

The bottle can be reused. After it is emptied, it is taken apart into three pieces, washed thoroughly, disinfected and left to dry. After several cycles the dropper insert may become loose in the neck, and in that case it needs to be replaced. For recycling, the glass is handed in separately, while the dropper insert and the cap go with plastics.

If you combine the bottle with another closure with an 18/410 neck finish, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the dropper insert with your specific formulation, especially with alcohol-based and low-viscosity contents. You can find closures with the same neck type and ready-made sets in the Handymade range.

Frequently asked questions

Can the 50 ml blue bottle with a dropper insert be used for a water-based toner or hydrosol?
Yes, water-based contents can be filled into the bottle, but the dropper insert lets watery liquids through faster than oils. For toners and hydrosols that are applied over a larger area, a fine mist sprayer with the same 18/410 neck finish is usually more convenient. The dropper insert is worthwhile when a water-based product is dispensed drop by drop, for example a concentrated solution of an active ingredient added to a cream.
How much liquid fits into the bottle with a dropper insert?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 50 ml. The total volume to the brim is larger and is given in the parameters. This reserve is intended for the dropper insert fitted in the neck and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. Filling all the way to the brim causes overflowing when the bottle is closed.
Is the blue bottle with a dropper insert suitable for essential oils?
Yes, a blue bottle with a dropper insert is commonly used for essential oil blends, and the dropper insert allows you to dispense one drop at a time. The dropper insert and the cap are made of plastic, so with concentrated essential oils we recommend checking after longer storage whether the plastic has softened or changed shape, and replacing it when the bottle is reused.
How do you clean a glass bottle with a dropper insert, and can it be reused?
The bottle is taken apart into the glass, the dropper insert and the cap, and all parts are washed, disinfected with alcohol and left to dry. The glass withstands hot water, while the plastic parts are cleaned with lukewarm water. After several uses the dropper insert may become loose in the neck, and you then replace it with a new one. With strongly aromatic contents, replacing the plastic parts is also advisable because of retained scent.
Does the blue bottle with a dropper insert have a certificate for food contact?
No, the set is declared only for contact with cosmetics, and none of its parts has a food-contact certificate. The bottle is intended for cosmetic products, tinctures and extracts for external use. For homemade oils or syrups, we recommend choosing packaging that is stated as suitable for food.
