Product description
The blue glass medicine bottle with a capacity of 10 ml, the short plastic dropper insert and the white safety cap make up a set for dispensing liquid cosmetic products drop by drop. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, so it suits contents that are harmed by light: concentrated facial serums, essential oil blends, oil elixirs for the face or cuticles, and small trial packs of new formulations. All three components have an 18/410 neck finish and are supplied already assembled, so you do not need to buy the closure or the dropper separately. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.
What the set consists of
- Blue glass medicine bottle 10 ml – the body of the packaging, made of glass whose blue colour reduces the amount of light reaching the contents.
- Plastic dropper insert, short – a clear polypropylene part that is pressed into the neck after filling and releases the contents one drop at a time.
- White safety cap – a smooth plastic PP and PE closure with an 18/410 neck finish that screws onto the medicine bottle and seals it.
What it is suitable for
Ten millilitres is a volume suited to products of which only a few drops are used per day. The dropper dispenses more precisely than free pouring, which you will appreciate with serums containing a higher concentration of active ingredients or with more expensive oils.
- Serums and concentrates – water-based and oil-based serums that are applied drop by drop and need protection from light.
- Essential oil blends – your own fragrance compositions and blends for dilution into massage oils.
- Oil elixirs – oils for the face, beard, nails and cuticles, where one or two drops are enough.
- Trial packs – samples of a new formulation for monitoring stability or for handing to customers to try.
- Cosmetic tinctures and alcohol-based solutions – small amounts of plant extracts for facial products, dispensed drop by drop.
Filling and dispensing
The medicine bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The space above the liquid level stays free for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the volume when pressed into the neck. An overfilled medicine bottle will overflow when the dropper insert is inserted.
First the glass is filled, then the dropper insert is pressed straight into the neck as far as it will go, and finally the cap is screwed on. When dispensing, tilt the medicine bottle or turn it upside down. The drops come out on their own, more slowly with thicker oils. Very thick serums with a gel consistency may not pass through the narrow opening of the dropper insert, so check the flow on a test bottle before filling the whole batch.
When measuring the usage rate in a formulation, bear in mind that the size of a drop depends on the viscosity of the contents. Oil gives larger drops than an alcohol solution, so measure the number of drops per millilitre separately for each product.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the packaging, disinfect it and let it dry completely. The dropper insert has a narrow channel in which water is retained, so give it more time to dry than the glass.
Do not fill the glass with hot contents. Let the prepared product cool to room temperature and avoid sudden changes in temperature, for example moving it from the fridge into the sun.
The dropper insert and the cap are made of plastic. With concentrated essential oils and strong solvents, check on one piece whether the plastic parts soften over time and whether the set stays tight.
The set is intended for cosmetic products. It is not approved for contact with food.
The glass can be used repeatedly after washing. The dropper insert is harder to clean once removed from the neck, and when you change the formulation it is better to replace it with a new one. For disposal, the plastic parts are separated from the glass and each material is sorted separately.
If you prefer a different closure, you will find other closures with an 18/410 neck finish in the Handymade range, as well as ready-made combinations of a medicine bottle with a closure. If you put together your own combination, check the tightness and the dispensing with your specific formulation.
