Product description

The clear 30 ml glass bottle with a short plastic dropper insert and a smooth black safety cap is supplied as a ready-made set for liquid products that are dispensed drop by drop. Clear glass shows the colour and purity of the contents, which you will appreciate with oils, serums or tinctures, where your customer wants to see what they are buying.

All three parts are designed for the 18/410 neck finish, so you do not have to choose them separately. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

How the set works

  • Dropper insert – a short PP insert that is pressed into the neck of the bottle. The contents flow out drop by drop and, apart from the glass, the dropper insert is the only part that touches the contents, which makes cleaning easier.
  • Safety cap – the black smooth cap made of PP and PE is screwed onto the neck over the dropper insert and closes the whole set.
  • Clear glass – it does not react with common cosmetic ingredients and does not transfer any odour to the contents. However, it does not protect the contents from light, which you need to take into account when choosing.

What it is suitable for

Low-viscosity liquid products can be dispensed drop by drop: face and hair oils, oil serums, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil, tinctures, alcohol-based herbal extracts or active ingredient concentrates. The volume of 30 ml corresponds to a common serum pack or a trial oil sample.

Thick serums with a higher proportion of gelling agents, creams and emulsions do not pass through the dropper insert, or they flow very slowly. A bottle with a pump or a jar is better suited to such textures. The dropper insert works with water-based toners, but if you want to apply the contents over a larger area, consider a bottle with a sprayer instead.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. We recommend storing oils prone to oxidation, products with vitamin C, retinol or essential oils in the dark, or choosing an amber or blue bottle for them.

Volume and filling

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is intended for with normal filling. Brimful capacity, that is the physical volume up to the neck, is slightly larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference provides a reserve for the dropper insert, which extends into the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume. If it were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out when the dropper insert is pressed in and the neck would be left soiled.

Press the dropper insert into the neck only after filling, straight and in one movement. Then screw on the cap and, as a test, turn the bottle upside down to check that it is tight before you fill the whole batch.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Residual water in the neck would otherwise end up in an anhydrous oil product. Treat the dropper insert and the cap in the same way, but do not use hot water or steam on the plastic.

Glass withstands normal hot filling, but sudden temperature changes do not suit it. Do not pour a hot oil phase into a cold bottle; let it cool to room temperature before filling. The PP dropper insert tolerates vegetable oils and alcohol-based extracts. With concentrated essential oils, especially citrus ones, or with solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the dropper insert with your specific formulation. Plastic may soften or absorb the odour over time.

After thorough washing, the bottle can be reused; the dropper insert is harder to clean of oil residues with repeated use. You will find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. With your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your formulation. Glass belongs in the glass recycling bin, and the dropper insert and cap belong with plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. Amber or blue glass is safer for oils prone to oxidation, serums with vitamin C or retinol and products with essential oils. Use the clear bottle when you want to show the colour of the contents and the product is stored in a box or away from direct light.
How much should I fill a 30 ml glass bottle?
Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck is a reserve for the dropper insert, which extends inside, and for expansion of the contents during warmer storage. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out when the dropper insert is pressed in and the cap may then not seal.
Is the plastic dropper insert suitable for a thick serum or cream?
No, the dropper insert dispenses only low-viscosity liquid products. Oils, oil serums, tinctures and aqueous solutions come out drop by drop without problems. Thick gel serums flow very slowly and creams do not pass through the dropper insert at all. For these textures, choose a bottle with a pump or a jar.
Is a glass bottle with a dropper insert suitable for essential oils?
The glass is; the plastic dropper insert and cap are suitable with some limitations. The dropper insert tolerates vegetable oils and blends of essential oils in a carrier oil without difficulty. With undiluted essential oils, especially citrus ones, we recommend checking whether the plastic softens or absorbs the odour over time. After use with an essential oil, the dropper insert is hard to rid of the smell.
How do I prepare the bottle, dropper insert and cap before the first filling?
Wash all parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. You can also wash the glass in hot water; clean the dropper insert and the PP and PE cap with lukewarm water, without steam. Press the dropper insert into the neck only after filling and check the tightness by turning the bottle upside down.
