Before each new filling, the bottle and the spray pump must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with a suitable alcohol-based preparation, for example with products available on Handymade: IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. Allow the disinfecting solution to act, rinse thoroughly and let the components dry completely in order to minimise the risk of microbial contamination of the new fill.

Very thick emulsions, gels and products with a high content of insoluble particles, which could clog the dosing mechanism, are not suitable for the bottle with spray pump. Likewise, formulations with an extremely high content of aggressive solvents or highly concentrated essential oils are not recommended unless their long-term compatibility with the plastic material of the packaging and the sealing has been tested in advance. When developing a new formula, we always recommend carrying out a trial filling and monitoring any changes in the appearance of the plastic, scent or functionality of the spray pump.

If the quality of the spraying changes or the mechanism or head becomes partially clogged, we recommend emptying the bottle, disassembling the spray pump into the accessible parts and rinsing them with warm (not hot) water or a mild detergent solution. It is then appropriate to rinse the components and briefly flush them through with clear alcohol to remove product residues. After washing, let all parts dry completely at room temperature away from direct sunlight and only then refill the bottle. This will restore the spraying functionality and prolong the service life of the dosing mechanism.

Always store the bottle upright, in a dry place and at a stable room temperature, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. Avoid extreme temperatures and prolonged overheating, which can affect the properties of the plastic as well as of the fill itself. After use, ensure that the spray cap is completely closed, in order to minimise evaporation of volatile components and the risk of accidental pressing of the pump during transport. If you are preparing products for sale, it is recommended to carry out stability tests under the planned storage conditions.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, its environmentally friendly disposal in the form of recycling according to the type of plastic given in the product parameters is recommended. First empty any remaining contents, if possible rinse the bottle and check the recycling symbol of the material. Then separate the bottle body and the spray pump according to local waste sorting rules – as a rule, clean plastic packaging is placed in the container intended for plastic.
