FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to use this plastic bottle with spray pump repeatedly?

The packaging can be reused if hygiene principles are observed, especially for DIY production of cosmetic or cleaning preparations. Before each new filling, however, the bottle and the spray pump must be thoroughly cleaned and then disinfected, for example using isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. For disinfection we recommend the products IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96% denatured plant-based. This reduces the risk of microbial contamination and prolongs the service life of both the contents and the packaging itself.

How should I care properly for the plastic packaging with spray pump so that it lasts as long as possible?

For caring for this bottle we recommend using lukewarm water and a mild cleaning agent so as to avoid unnecessary wear of the material or the spray mechanism. After cleaning, allow all parts to dry thoroughly at room temperature. PET material should not be exposed to high temperatures, so avoid boiling, pouring with hot water or drying near heat sources – there is a risk of deformation of the packaging. The packaging is not suitable for washing in a dishwasher or for thermal sterilisation, as these procedures may negatively affect the shape of the bottle and the functionality of the spray pump.

How should I correctly recycle this packaging if I do not want to use it further?

If you decide not to reuse the bottle with spray pump, we recommend recycling it responsibly in accordance with the material marking given in the product parameters. Before handing it over for separate collection, empty the pack, rinse out product residues and, in line with local sorting rules, place it in the appropriate container intended for the given type of plastic. The spray pump and container body may be made of different plastics, so it is advisable to separate them where possible. The recycling symbol and recommended method of disposal can be found in the parameter table by the product on the Handymade website, on the basis of which the packaging can be assigned to the correct sorting stream.

For which types of products is this spray packaging most suitable in terms of dosing functionality?

The spray mechanism is ideal for watery to slightly viscous preparations where even and fine spraying is desired. In practice this includes hydrolats, facial and body sprays, hair tonics, room and textile sprays and light cleaning solutions. With thicker emulsions or oils, the character of spraying may change and the functionality of the pump may deteriorate, which is why for new formulations we always recommend carrying out your own test of dosing and long-term stability.
