Product description
The Manuka Med hydrosol is particularly suitable for cosmetics intended for combination, oily, impure, sensitive, irritated, reddened or comfort-demanding skin. In cosmetic formulations it is used as the water phase, facial water, toner, facial mist or as a gentle aromatic component in emulsions, gels, cleansing products and hair care. Its character is especially suitable where the product is meant to act fresh, clean, soothing and at the same time pleasantly softly honey-like.
Key benefits
- Gentle aqueous aromatic raw material – suitable for facial, body, hair and cleansing cosmetics.
- Suitable for combination and oily skin – practical for toners, facial waters, light gels and products for skin prone to impurities.
- Supports comfort of sensitive skin – suitable for products for skin prone to redness, tightness or irritation.
- Pleasant honey-herbal profile – gives products a soft, natural and less sharp scent than concentrated aromatic components.
- Suitable as part of the water phase – can partially or completely replace distilled water in selected formulations.
- Good compatibility with moisturising ingredients – suitable with glycerin, aloe vera, panthenol, allantoin, betaine and hyaluronic acid.
- Universal use in leave-on and rinse-off products – with properly adjusted pH and preservation system.
Suitable for products such as
- facial waters, toners and facial mists for combination, oily, sensitive or impure skin,
- light hydrating gels and serums with aloe vera, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol or allantoin,
- creams, facial milks and body emulsions as part of the water phase,
- cleansing gels, micellar waters and makeup removers with appropriately chosen pH and preservation system,
- aftershave and post-depilation products to support skin comfort,
- clay, herbal and powder masks to be mixed immediately before use,
- hair tonics, shampoos and conditioners for a fresh feeling on the scalp,
- body sprays and refreshing waters after showering, sport or staying in the heat,
- local cosmetic compresses and poultices for the care of stressed skin.
Use in formulation
- Recommended dosage: usually 1 – 100 % depending on product type; may form part or all of the water phase.
- Soluble in: water and aqueous cosmetic systems.
- Miscible with: distilled water, glycerin, propanediol, aloe vera juice, hydrogels and water-soluble active ingredients.
- Compatible with: oil-in-water emulsions, facial toners, gels, serums, gentle cleansing products, shampoos and rinse-off hair care.
- Emulsion products: incorporate into the water phase; for formulations that are heated, it is advisable to add part of the hydrosol only in the cooling phase in order to minimise unnecessary overheating of delicate aromatic components.
- It is recommended to add during the cooling phase (at temperatures below 40 °C).
- Leave-on products: particularly suitable for facial mists, toners, serums, gels and creams; the final pH and microbiological stability of the finished product must always be checked.
- Rinse-off products: may be used in shampoos, shower gels, foams and gentle cleansing products as part of the water phase.
- Formulation pH: always measure the final pH in the finished formulation and adjust it according to the preservative used, active ingredients and the target product type.
Safety and storage
- Intended for cosmetic use and for further processing in cosmetic formulations.
- For sensitive skin or first-time use, we recommend performing a tolerance test on a small area of skin.
- Avoid contamination of the contents – use clean tools, close the container immediately after use and do not pour back raw material that has already been taken out.
- Store in a well-closed container, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
- It is advisable to store in a cool, dry and dark place; hydrosols are aqueous raw materials sensitive to microbial contamination.
- When producing a finished cosmetic product, always verify the final pH, microbiological stability and suitability of the preservation system.
- For products intended for children, pregnant women or very sensitive skin, it is necessary to assess the suitability of the entire formulation, not only of the hydrosol itself.
FAQ
Yes, it can be a suitable aqueous component in light toners, gels and cleansing products for skin prone to impurities. However, the effect of the finished product depends on the whole formulation, especially on the active ingredients used, the pH and the cleansing components.
Not in the same concentration. The hydrosol is a water phase with a low content of aromatic components, whereas the essential oil is a concentrated oil fraction. Therefore they differ in scent intensity, dosage and technological use.
It can be part of the water phase, but with salicylic acid, correct dissolution, target pH and legally compliant dosage are crucial. The final formulation must always be checked as a whole.
Yes, it can also be used in formulations without added fragrance. However, it must be taken into account that the hydrosol has its own natural scent, which may be noticeable in simple water-based products.
Yes, it is suitable for dispersing clay or powder masks immediately before application. A mixture prepared in this way is intended for immediate use and should not be stored without proven preservation.
It is not recommended to add it afterwards to a finished preserved cleansing gel without adjusting the formulation. This will change the ratio of water, preservative, surfactants and pH, which may affect stability as well as microbiological safety.
