Product description

Floral water, hydrosol, Damask rose is a gentle aqueous cosmetic raw material obtained by steam distillation of the petals of the Damask rose, Rosa damascena. Distillation makes it possible to transfer part of the delicate aromatic components of the rose into the aqueous phase, which is lighter and less concentrated than rose essential oil. The hydrosol is therefore practical in formulations where a subtle rose scent, good tolerability and easy incorporation into the aqueous phase are desired.
Rose floral water is particularly suitable for dry, normal, sensitive, mature, dull or reddened skin. It is used in facial toners, mists, serums, emulsions, masks and gentle cleansing products.

Key benefits

  • Gentle rose floral water – a universal raw material for facial and body care products.
  • Suitable for sensitive skin – practical for toners and serums with a simple composition.
  • Pleasant comfort for dry skin – suitable together with humectants and lipid components in emulsions.
  • Rose sensory profile – helps create an elegant formulation without heavy perfuming.
  • Suitable for multi-step skincare routines – as a toner before a serum, cream or oil-based product.
  • Good combinability – suitable with aloe vera, panthenol, glycerin, betaine, allantoin and hyaluronic acid.

Suitable for products such as

  • facial toners for dry, sensitive and normal skin,
  • hydrating serums with moisturizing ingredients,
  • emulsions and creams with a subtle rose character,
  • cleansing milks and micellar waters,
  • facial mists for a handbag or beauty salon,
  • masks for dull skin,
  • body waters and light sprays.

Use in formulation

  • Recommended dosage: 1 – 100 %.
  • Soluble in: water.
  • Miscible with: water, hydrosols, glycerin, propanediol, aloe vera and hydrogels.
  • Compatible with: toners, serums, oil-in-water emulsions, facial mists and gentle cleansing products.
  • It is recommended to add during the cooling phase (at a temperature below 40 °C).
  • In emulsions: it can form the entire aqueous phase or part of it, especially in products for dry and mature skin.
  • In gels: suitable with xanthan gum, hyaluronic acid or ready-made gelling systems.

Safety and storage

  • Intended for cosmetic use.
  • For sensitive skin we recommend a patch test for tolerability.
  • Protect from contamination, light, heat and frost.
  • Store in a clean, well-closed container, ideally in a cool place.
  • In products with a high water content, appropriate preservation is necessary.
  • For the eye area and children’s cosmetics, assess the entire formulation.

FAQ

Can rose hydrosol form the base of a simple toner?

Yes, it can form the main aqueous component of a toner. However, when blending in additional aqueous substances, it is necessary to address preservation and pH.

Is it suitable for men’s cosmetics?

Yes, it can also be used in aftershave products or gentle facial lotions, especially if the fragrance is balanced with herbal or woody components.

Can it be combined with AHA acids?

It can form part of the aqueous phase, but with AHA acids, the resulting pH, the acid concentration and the suitability of the product for the target skin are decisive.

Is rose water suitable for body care products?

Yes, it is suitable for body lotions, sprays and light emulsions, where it provides a delicate scent and a pleasant feel upon application.

Can it be used to mix an alginate mask?

Yes, it can be used as the aqueous component when preparing a mask for immediate use. The mixture is not stored after preparation.
