Floral Water, Rosa Damascena, 100 ml

Floral water from Damask rose is the aqueous base of the formulation, with its own active effect. It tones the skin, supports its hydration and has a soothing effect, which is why it is used mainly in facial tonics, serums and light emulsions for sensitive, dry and mature skin. It is obtained by steam distillation of Rosa damascena flowers, carries their natural fragrance and does not contain ethanol. In the water phase it replaces part or all of the water, and it can also be used on its own as a facial toner.

Use in formulation

The hydrosol is water-soluble and belongs to the water phase. The recommended processing temperature is below 40 °C. It is therefore added to emulsions during the cooling phase, and to tonics, serums and gels when preparing at cold temperature. Dosage ranges from 1 to 100 % depending on whether it is intended to supplement or fully replace water in the formula. The recommended pH range of the finished formulation is 4.5 – 5.5.

In the formulation it acts as both a carrier and an active ingredient. It can be used as a base in which water-soluble actives dissolve, such as glycerín, hyaluronic acid or panthenol. The liquid is colourless and does not alter the colour of the finished product. Compatibility with other ingredients is unrestricted.

• products for the eye area, such as refreshing compresses
• hair sprays and scalp tonics

The hydrosol is intended for both rinse-off and leave-on products.

What to know when formulating

The flowers come from Bulgaria, the traditional growing region of Damask rose. The hydrosol holds Vegan certification and is readily biodegradable.

It is supplied preserved. The composition, alongside the rose water, includes benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid and dehydroacetic acid, together below 0.5 %. This preservation protects the raw material itself. A finished product containing water requires its own preservation system designed for the whole formula and verified by a preservation efficacy test.

The raw material is not classified as hazardous under CLP and does not require a safety data sheet.
