Yes, the packaging can be used repeatedly if handled appropriately and not damaged. However, before each new filling it is necessary to thoroughly clean the bottle and then disinfect it, ideally using a suitable alcohol, for example IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96% denatured plant-based. Observing hygiene rules when cleaning and drying the packaging is important for the safety and stability of the final product.

It is advisable to first rinse the bottle with the remaining carrier medium (for example with a suitable oil or distilled water, depending on the type of the original contents), then wash it with a mild cleaning agent and rinse thoroughly. After it is completely dry, we recommend disinfecting the inside of the packaging and the internal parts of the closure, for example using isopropyl alcohol or plant-based ethanol. Before filling, make sure that no residues of water or cleaning agents remain in the packaging.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging, it is advisable to recycle it according to the material specified in the product parameters. The glass bottle, after being emptied and basically cleaned, is usually sorted into the container intended for glass, while plastic or combined closures are sorted separately according to the type of material. We recommend checking the “Material” section in the product parameters and adapting the sorting in your municipality accordingly so that recycling is as efficient as possible.

The glass packaging is generally stable and suitable for most cosmetic preparations based on oil and water. Nevertheless, we recommend for new formulations to carry out your own compatibility test – to verify the behaviour of the product in contact with the glass and the closure used over a certain period of time. For very acidic, alkaline or atypical blends it is advisable to make a test in a smaller volume before the final filling of the whole batch.
