Product description

Glass bottle, vial, aluminium cap, 50 ml is a ready-made combination of a brown glass vial with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a screw-on aluminium cap in silver. The set is intended for filling cosmetic preparations that require dark glass and a reliably sealed container: facial and body oils, serums, alcohol tinctures, herbal macerates, tonics and fragrance blends. Brown glass reduces light transmission, helping to protect light- and oxidation-sensitive ingredients such as vegetable oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids or essential oils. The aluminium cap with an integrated sealing insert closes the container securely and, with its clean appearance, pairs well with minimalist labels.

A volume of 50 ml is practical for small batches, samples and testing new formulations, or for products that are used up within a few weeks where filling into larger bottles makes no sense.

Key benefits

  • Light protection – brown glass limits light transmission to the contents, which slows changes in scent, colour and quality in oils, essential oils and tinctures.
  • Non-reactive glass – glass does not react with oils, alcohol or water-based solutions, does not absorb scents and can be thoroughly cleaned and reused.
  • Secure screw closure – the aluminium cap with sealing insert sits firmly on the thread and, when properly tightened, seals even with liquid contents.
  • Ready-made combination – the bottle and cap share the same neck type, so there is no need to search for or test a separate closure.
  • Suitable for small volumes – 50 ml is sufficient for trial batches, travel sizes and small gift sets.

What the set is suitable for

The brown vial with screw cap is particularly suitable for liquid and mildly viscous preparations dispensed by pouring or scooping: facial and massage oils, blends with essential oils, hair serums, cleansing oils, herbal tinctures, macerates, hydrolates and facial tonics. It also works well as a container for custom essential oil blends for an aroma lamp or diffuser.

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle itself also has a separate certification for direct food contact, but the aluminium cap does not, so the set is not intended for food use.

Nominal and total volume

For every container we distinguish between nominal volume and total brim volume. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is designed during normal filling – in this case 50 ml. The total volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap and its seal, as well as room for slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. A correctly filled bottle closes more easily, does not overflow when the cap is tightened and the seal remains clean.

Fill oils and alcohol-based solutions with a gap below the neck. If filled to the brim, tightening the cap forces some of the contents onto the thread; it dries there and the seal subsequently performs less well.

What is good to know

Preparation before first filling. New bottles are clean but not sterile. Before first use it is recommended to rinse them, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely upside down. The cap, including the inner sealing insert which does not need to be removed, should be treated in the same way.

Repeated use. Glass can be washed in a dishwasher and reused without loss of properties. The cap is best washed by hand in warm water, and after oily contents it is worth checking whether the sealing insert has swollen or come loose. If the cap has lost its seal, only the cap needs to be replaced.

Glass is fairly resistant to temperature, but sudden temperature changes are not good for it. Do not pour a hot mixture – such as a freshly heated oil phase – into a cold bottle. Let it cool to at least a lukewarm temperature first.

Content compatibility. Brown glass and the aluminium cap with sealing insert handle oil-based, alcohol-based and water-based contents. For strongly acidic or alkaline preparations and for higher concentrations of essential oils we recommend verifying the behaviour of the sealing insert with the specific formulation, ideally with a short test in a single bottle before filling an entire batch.

Labelling. The cylindrical shape of the vial allows a label to be applied around the circumference. Apply the label to a clean, dry surface after filling and tightening the cap.

Alternative closures. Any closure with the same neck type from the Handymade range is compatible with this bottle, for example a dropper for precise dosing of serums or a spray pump for tonics. Ready-made bottle + closure combinations have their own descriptions. With a custom assembly we always recommend verifying the seal and dispensing performance with the specific contents.

For essential oil blends and facial oils, protection from both light and air exposure is important. Brown glass addresses the first, and a firmly tightened aluminium cap with sealing insert addresses the second.

Recycling. Glass belongs in the separate glass collection, the aluminium cap in metals. Unscrew the cap and rinse the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 50 ml brown glass vial protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass significantly limits light transmission to the contents and is suitable for light-sensitive preparations. It helps slow the oxidation of vegetable oils, changes in the scent of essential oils and the fading of colour in tinctures. The protection is not complete, so we recommend storing the bottle away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Compared to clear glass, however, brown glass provides a substantially better starting point.
Can the vial with aluminium cap be used for food?
No, the set as a whole is not intended for contact with food. The glass bottle itself has a separate certification for direct food contact, but the aluminium cap with sealing insert does not. The complete combination is therefore declared suitable for cosmetic products only. For homemade oils or syrups we recommend choosing a bottle with a closure that has food-grade suitability listed in its parameters.
How many ml fit in the 50 ml vial and how full should it be filled?
The bottle is designed for filling to the nominal volume of 50 ml, even though its physical brim volume is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap seal and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. When filled to the brim, tightening the cap forces the contents onto the thread and the seal subsequently performs less well, so leave a free space below the neck. The exact total volume is listed in the parameters.
Is the aluminium cap suitable for oil-based and alcohol-based contents?
Yes, the aluminium cap with an integrated sealing insert handles oil-based, alcohol-based and water-based preparations commonly used in cosmetics. When properly tightened it seals even with liquid contents. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or with a markedly acidic or alkaline pH, we recommend checking the seal after a few weeks, or carrying out a short test in a single bottle before filling an entire batch.
How is the glass vial cleaned and can it be reused?
Yes, the glass vial can be reused without restriction. Simply wash the bottle in warm water with dish soap or in a dishwasher, then disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely upside down. The aluminium cap is washed by hand. After oily contents it is worth checking the sealing insert, and if it no longer seals, replace only the cap – the bottle continues to serve.
Can a dropper or spray pump be used with the 50 ml vial instead of the cap?
Yes, the bottle accepts any closure with the same neck type listed in the product parameters. A dropper is suitable for serums and concentrated oil blends dispensed drop by drop, a spray pump for tonics and hydrolates. Ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range with their own descriptions. With a custom assembly we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing performance with the specific formulation.
