Amber glass medicine bottle, 30 ml, with silver glossy dropper for serums and oils

A ready-made set for filling facial serums, facial oils and active concentrates that are dispensed drop by drop. It consists of an amber glass medicine bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml and a dropper with a silver glossy collar. Both parts have the same neck finish, so they fit together without trial and error. Amber glass dampens light and protects contents that are sensitive to oxidation, for example vegetable oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, serums with vitamin C or blends with essential oils.

The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass medicine bottle itself is also certified for direct contact with food, but the dropper is not, so the set is intended for cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

• Facial and eye serums – both water-based and oil-based; the dropper lets you draw up exactly the amount that is applied to the face.
• Facial oils and oil blends – dry and richer oils, beard oil, cuticle oil.
• Blends of essential oils in a carrier oil – massage or aromatherapy blends where drops are counted.
• Tinctures and alcohol extracts for cosmetic use, which benefit from protection from light.
• Samples and test batches – 30 ml is enough to check a formulation before making a larger quantity.

The dropper is not suitable for thick gels, cream emulsions or products with particles that would get stuck in the glass tube. A bottle with a pump or a jar is a better choice for such contents.

How the dropper dispenses

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a glossy aluminium collar that screws onto the neck of the medicine bottle. Squeezing the bulb draws the contents up, and releasing it dispenses them drop by drop. The length of the dropper is matched to the height of this medicine bottle, so it reaches the bottom and the remaining contents can also be used up. The amount of liquid in one drop depends on the viscosity and surface tension of the contents; a water-based serum gives a smaller drop than a thicker oil.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. Total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which displaces part of the volume once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. For this reason, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill to the brim, the contents overflow when the dropper is inserted and over time may seep onto the thread.

Good to know

• Preparation before the first filling – wash the medicine bottles and droppers, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in an oil serum shortens its shelf life.
• Reuse – glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection without any change in its properties. After use, take the dropper apart, rinse the glass tube and check that the silicone bulb has not hardened or lost its elasticity.
• Glass and heat – do not fill the medicine bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden changes in temperature. Let the contents cool to room temperature before filling.
• Closures – other closures with the same neck finish also fit the medicine bottle; you will find ready-made combinations and closures sold separately in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
• Recycling – the medicine bottle goes into glass recycling; the dropper is made of several materials and is sorted separately from the bottle.
