Product description

Glass bottle, glossy black, black dropper, 15 ml

The black glass bottle with dropper is a complete packaging and closure set for preparations that are dispensed drop by drop and are sensitive to light. Opaque black glass fully shields the contents, while the dropper with a tamper-evident ring releases it precisely drop by drop. The small nominal volume of 15 ml is designed for face serums, oils and concentrated preparations used in small amounts.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The food contact declaration applies to the glass bottle alone; the dropper does not carry it, so the complete set is intended for cosmetic preparations.

Why black glass and a dropper

  • Light protection – opaque black glass does not transmit light, which slows down changes in light-sensitive preparations such as vegetable oils, vitamin serums or essential oil blends. The black colour here is not just aesthetics, but function.
  • Precise dispensing – the dropper draws up a small amount and releases it drop by drop, without spilling and without the contents touching fingers. Suited for preparations where a few drops make all the difference.
  • Tamper-evident ring – on first opening the ring tears off, making it visible that the packaging has not been opened before. Useful both for retail and for gifts.
  • Glass as a material – glass does not react with oils, alcohol or essential oils, does not absorb scent and can be thoroughly washed and reused.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount for which the packaging is intended under normal filling. The total brim-full volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is always larger. The difference provides a margin for the glass tube of the dropper, which on screwing in pushes some of the contents upward, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Exact values for both volumes are in the product parameters.

Before screwing the dropper on for the first time, leave some free space in the neck. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the tube will push the contents out and the preparation will overflow through the thread.

Practical use

The set is suited wherever a preparation is dispensed drop by drop and is sensitive to light: face serums on both water and oil base, face oils and oil blends, beard and hair-end oils, essential oil blends for a diffuser or massage, alcohol tinctures and concentrated active ingredients that the customer adds to a base cream. The 15 ml volume also works well as a sample or travel size.

Thicker preparations such as gels or dense emulsions are drawn up into the dropper with difficulty and are dispensed imprecisely. For these, a different type of closure is more suitable.

The dropper seals under normal storage in an upright position. During transport, especially with alcohol-based or very thin contents, we recommend checking the seal with the specific formulation. The silicone bulb of the dropper is generally resistant, but at high concentrations of essential oils verify the behaviour of the closure in the finished preparation.

Black glass fully shields the contents. You cannot see the remaining amount or any changes in the appearance of the preparation. Bear this in mind for preparations where you want to monitor discolouration or sediment.

Good to know

  • Preparation before filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based preparation leads to cloudiness and shortens its shelf life.
  • Reuse – glass can be washed and used again. Disassemble the dropper, wash the glass tube and bulb separately, and before the next use check that the bulb has not lost its elasticity.
  • Label – a light-coloured label and light printing stand out well on a glossy black surface.
  • Glass and heat – do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, verify the seal, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the glass bottle belongs in glass waste; the dropper is a combination of plastic, silicone and glass, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, opaque black glass does not transmit light, unlike clear glass. It is therefore suitable for vegetable oils, vitamin serums and essential oil blends, which lose their efficacy and change scent faster in light. The drawback is that you cannot see the remaining amount or the appearance of the contents.
How much fits in a bottle with a nominal volume of 15 ml?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 15 ml of preparation; physically it is larger. The difference between the nominal and total volume is a margin for the glass tube of the dropper and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the preparation will overflow through the thread on screwing in and the dropper will not seal.
Is the glass bottle with dropper suitable for essential oils?
Yes, glass does not react with essential oils and does not absorb their scent; black glass additionally protects them from light. The dropper allows oil to be dispensed drop by drop. At high concentrations of essential oils we recommend verifying the behaviour of the silicone bulb and the seal in the finished preparation.
Can the bottle with dropper be used for a water-based serum?
Yes, the set is suitable for both water-based and oil-based serums. Water-based preparations must be properly preserved, however, because each draw pulls air into the bottle and the dropper repeatedly contacts the contents. For water-based serums it is worth filling a smaller amount that is used up quickly.
Is the bottle and dropper set approved for food contact?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The declaration of suitability for direct food contact applies to the glass bottle alone; the dropper does not carry such a declaration. If you need packaging for food use, choose a different closure with the same neck type that has food contact certification.
How to clean the bottle with dropper and reuse it?
Wash the bottle with warm soapy water, rinse, disinfect with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely. Disassemble the dropper into the tube, bulb and ring and wash them separately. Before the next filling check the elasticity of the bulb and the seal of the screwed-on dropper.
